🔥USA East Coast friends: if the #Wildfire smoke is thick in your area, build a Corsi-Rosenthal box filter. These are inexpensive to build and very effective, and they filter and exchange the air in your house very efficiently. We use them extensively here in the western US when the fire smoke is bad. See this resource for how to build one:

DIY box fan filters – Corsi-Rosenthal box - Clean Air Crew

Also known as a Corsi-Rosenthal box, this DIY method of building your own air filter with MERV13 furnace filters and a box fan are an easy and cost-effective way to help clear indoor air from airborne virus particles, wildfire smoke, pollen, dust, and more! If you can seal a box, you can build one (or

And keep a browser tab open to https://map.purpleair.com so you can monitor the air quality in your area. You should primarily be concerned about PM2.5. Do not stress about the VOC readings. Those measurements are still considered experimental/uncalibrated in Purple Air. #airquality #Wildfire #smoke

@bud_t The airnow site (https://fire.airnow.gov/) is also good for showing where the smoke is coming from.

@bud_t I check @bud_t's readings whenever I need a local number because he lives about four blocks from me ;-)

@bud_t CBC Marketplace pitted this kind of #diy box fan against commercially available filters, and found that they were more than able to hold their own.

@bud_t Thank you for posting this!
@ai6yr after the #MarshallFire here in Boulder county, I think I had the entire town building C-R box filters. I even gave a few away.
@bud_t For the lazier among us, I'd recommend just getting a box fan and taping a MERV 12 or better filter to it. Super cheap and easy and works nearly as well as a Corsi-Rosenthal box (perhaps not at COVID filtering, but for smoke it works great).
@invisv that works, but it won't exchange a high volume of air as quickly. But yes, by all means use any filtering you can and move air through it!
@bud_t Yeah, when I have a bit more time, I take a half step in that direction, and just do two filters in a triangle shape at the back of the box fan, using part of the box fan's cardboard box as the top and bottom.
@bud_t I think @nicod and I were talking about building this filter on Zoom. Sounds simple but I'd still need a hand building it.
@wx1g @nicod it's a good project to do with friends or neighbors. Buy the filters in bulk packs and split the cost
@bud_t And when the smoke issue is over use your Corsi Box every time you have people over. Do your part to stop the spread of #Covid. #CovidIsNotOver
@bud_t I built one of these for my workplace, for Covid. Easy to put together; a one-person job made easier by a second set of hands to hold things while you tape; that's all it takes.

@bud_t At the time I was setting my house up for #covid and ~ 12 air changes/hour, I used this online tool to get current pricing and number of filter recommendations for the cubic volume of my rooms - it makes it very easy to select the proper filtration for the targeted air change rate! Back then the Taotronics TT-AP003 was even cheaper than than the DIY Corsi Rosenthal, but this is no longer the case.

Air Filters - Clean Air Stars

Choosing an air filter can be confusing, but it needn't be. 1. Determine the room dimensions or person capacity To reduce the risk of transmission we aim to introduce as much fresh or filtered air into a space as possible.
