A rather scary (and incorrect) notification to get when you are about to land in California.
@ismh I was sitting at the keynote yesterday and it told me my iPad had been left behind. I literally checked the backpack at my feet to make sure it was still there. 😅
@dmoren @ismh it’s like using a compass at the equator, things get messy
@ismh did you go ahead and put iOS 17 on there?? If not well done, Don’t think I could hold out. I put it on all of my devices as soon as I could
@ismh The only time I ever get this about my AirPods Pro is when they are literally in my pocket.
@ismh I get this notification every time I put my AirPods away when not near my house. Just double tap my pocket each time now and tell my phone it’s an idiot
@ismh
Mine were left behind in the North Atlantic Ocean on our cruise, the near the Straits of Gibraltar and our hotel in Rome. Luckily they are here with me, I hope…
@ismh The AirTags for my dogs go off whenever I go out of town. Not just leave the house, but out of town. And then my wife has to deal with the beeping. There is something broken in the stack for tracking.
@ismh It'd be but Find My taught us these notifications are mostly false positive
@ismh Yeah, I turned off notifications about a week after getting my AirPod Pros because they were so persistently wrong. I guess I’m glad for the ability to search for them if genuinely lost, but sure don’t have much faith my phone ever actually knows their location.
@ismh I once got that while I had one IN MY EAR actively listening to something. My most generous interpretation is that people who use just one at a time, as I often do for speech/calls, are a minority edge case. On the upside it has kept me from going straight to panic when it’s falsely told me I didn’t have them in my pocket.
@ismh Because the image in that post had no alt text, screen reader users aren’t able to know what Stephen was referring to.

@ismh I turned off all of those alerts.

Not fast enough to be useful, and too many false positives. Just out here giving people a fright for no reason. Shouldn't be on by default.

@ismh something about DFW i swear
@ismh this happened to me in the middle of a flight last year. Freaked the heck out of me till we landed and I could confirm that, indeed, I still had that laptop in my bag.
@ismh I get those for my AirPods and my MacBook so often, especially when travelling at highway speeds, when they’re in the car with me. It just doesn’t work correctly.
@ismh I’ve gotten that notification while the AirPods are both literally in my ears. And Siri announces the notification through them. 🤦🏽‍♂️
@ismh loved getting this as I walked out of the subway with about 45 seven year olds on a field trip
@ismh I get these *all the time* on my 3rd-gens. Whatever chip is in there is nowhere near as good as the AirTag
@ismh The only time I got burned was getting this warning as I drove away from a hotel. I had powered it down completely the night before. I had to exit the freeway to check only to find it right where I expected it. Knowing that it could have been true made it worth the hassle.
@ismh I get this a lot. Always has me checking pockets!
