Lol. Wait till they find out about climate change.
@davidho We don't need artificial intelligence for that, a lot of politicians are already working on our extinction!
@WandernAustria @davidho
Politicians can't be blamed for all the problems. Voters bear the ultimate responsibility and shifting the blame so they don't think that they have to do anything is not going to get us to net-zero as quickly as we need to.
@GreenFire @WandernAustria @davidho u can’t blame ether one of them, it’s a systematic problem who all of us are responsible to. But the political debates is full of wrong narratives. These must be tackled.
@NerdRage42 @WandernAustria @davidho
The only possible way to fix gerrymandering in our country now that the SCOTUS has legalized it is for more Americans to start voting.
@GreenFire @NerdRage42 @WandernAustria @davidho No, that's the point of gerrymandering. It's balanced that more votes will have little effect.

@ShrikeTron @GreenFire @WandernAustria @davidho yeah...I didn't bother countering that Galaxy brain answer. I'm over it.

We can't vote any harder.

@NerdRage42 @ShrikeTron @WandernAustria @davidho
How does gerrymandering explain Ted Cruz being in office than galaxy brain?
@GreenFire @ShrikeTron @WandernAustria @davidho You're right. Must be not enough smart blue voting people like you in Texas voting. What a sad story. Me dumb. You smart.
@GreenFire @WandernAustria @davidho you can't vote your way out of fascism. It requires a combined approach of voting, direct action, mutual aid, and community building (including community defense, which is hard for many people to hear). We need to elevate each other to positions where voting is the bare minimum they can do rather than being either the supposed holy grail of change for some or a literal impossibility for the disenfranchised. The homeless person trying their hardest to survive doesn't have time to focus on the political picture of the world, and marginalized people living under active voter suppression aren't going to risk their lives for something many don't fundamentally believe changes things anyway. We need to do real actionable good for others that allows them to go out and do the same, and voting is only one piece of the puzzle
@GreenFire @WandernAustria @davidho actually in some countries a lack of clear responsibility is the problem, that things don't change. There you ask the mayor to change something, who says the city council is responsible, so you go to them and they say the country is responsible, so you go to the country who say the cities have to decide that for themselves. And in the end no one feels able to decide.

@WandernAustria @davidho Right. Wait until they find out about ogliarchs and billionaires… 🤦🏻‍♀️

There's "one" that constantly "works" remotely while flying around in a massive-emissions producing private jet. Then tells all working remotely is "unethical".

@WandernAustria @davidho And they function on natural stupidity...
@davidho or "Artificial experts could lead to intelligence extinction"
@olm_e @davidho That is one of the points of the article :)
@davidho Also, has anyone broken the news to them about mortality?

@davidho

Well, if it goes extinct, it goes extinct.

@davidho The extinction-of-humanity pitch for large language models is certainly more exciting than what we were given for blockchain. They're getting better at this.
#LLMs #AI #SiliconValley #VCs #Hype #Blockchain
@davidho Even at the rate at which AI is supposedly progressing, climate change will easily become a non-avoidable, non-reversible disaster way before that.
@davidho Thinking about it this could be their ‘plan’: to train up AI ‘bots to do the work ordinary humans used to before the World became too hot.
@PaulNickson @davidho who is "their"? Who do you think made that 'plan'?
@duco @davidho Not the Conservatives as they don’t know what’s going on aside from instructions from 55, Tufton St., Putin etc..
@davidho Okay but they didn't specify it would mean OUR extinction. They could have meant the extinction of the job market.
@LMNOChris 👆🏻 that’s the more immediate threat that AI poses at the moment.

@SailorDisco @LMNOChris

Global Warming is more immediate to people in #NovaScotia watching their exurban homes burn right now than AI is. Or to people suffering in the Asian heatwave, etc etc.

@RobertJ @LMNOChris It’s right on my doorstep in California. Several fires in recent years have gotten close to my house. It’s at the point where windy weather makes me nervous. Climate change has already been devastating, it’s dispiriting to watch the world carry on as if everything is fine.
@davidho cats will take over before AI
@davidho land use change also, partly driven by climate change
@davidho hardly surprising really. After all, any other form of intelligent consciousness with the means to make a difference would see us as the biggest threat to our own planet.
@davidho
What shocks me more than global warming is how it keeps such a low profile in the news. You'd think global warming was top secret the way most media avoids it.
@davidho experts already warned decades ago for climate change
@davidho I'm so fucking sick of these hysterics and their "expertise"

@davidho "...Engage all AI Protocols number one. Lt. _______________, divert all auxiliary power to the Cloaking Device. ...Ready Warp Drives."

{Boosted : 10:45a PST : https://mastodon.social/@arstechnica/110458764157969765}

@davidho i can't decide which is worse: an evil #ai or this level of #journalism. the longer i think about it, the more those two seem as essentially the same problem.
@davidho they definitely aren't wrong though

@davidho tell them AI could fix climate change.

That could from one extreme or the other

@davidho it's not artificial intelligence. It's artificial logic. To be intelligent it has to have empathy. It does not have empathy!

@davidho

When you say, "wait till they find out about climate change" are you referring to the experts, or the AI?

If the AI, computers generally operate best at similar temperature ranges as most biological life...

So... on the bright side, maybe climate change would get fixed without human consent?

@davidho it is not at all accidental that the “longtermists” are spamming the agenda with phony problems
@davidho the definition of intelligence is an urge of self-destruction…
@davidho Maybe they refer to the fact that training these AI thingies lead to a humongous amount of heat, which contributes to the global warming (?)
@davidho looking at the state of the world, this makes me start thinking AI might be a positive thing.

@davidho literally my first comment on that LI concern trolling thread today.

As if people aren't even paying attention to the number of existential threats that are active right now.

@davidho Why do you believe Climate Change would lead to extinction? (Curious)
