@GottaLaff @Oprah I wonder what would happen if someone requested a ban of like Bibles or books that talk about the U.S. Construction.

@randalljgreene @GottaLaff @Oprah

This is the response. They will not listen to reason and our anger encourages them. We have to turn their tactic against them. Not just ban Bibles, but ban any book that mentions Christianity or any book by a conservative. How many Bill O'Reilly books do you think are in Florida public schools?

@GottaLaff @Oprah

What's fucking racist is the administrators saw the a-hole saying it was written by "Oprah" and instead of throwing it away as the racist garbage it is, they listen to the a-hole. #boycottFlorida

@GottaLaff @Oprah @Mxhrad

Whoever is administering the libraries could clearly throw this out because Oprah hasn’t written anything with that title. The fact that they didn’t shows that the administration is 100% on-board with the new fascism

@CDunnPasadena @GottaLaff @Oprah

Exactly. The administration is no different than the loud crazy nuts calling for banning everything.

@CDunnPasadena @GottaLaff @Oprah @Mxhrad (unrelated) is that a stellated dodecahedron? best pfp I’ve seen yet
@angeleyes04 @GottaLaff @Oprah @Mxhrad
It’s a sketch from figuring out a “recipe” to draw an dodecahedron. I know a formula to draw an icosahedron inside a hexagon, so I cut off the vertices to get a dodecahedron and then worked out how the new vertices are related.

@GottaLaff How pathetically sad that parents seek to impede their children’s education….. why rob your children like that, I do not understand….

@morganalafee @GottaLaff

MAGA voters want their own children "protected" from realities like extraordinary young poets like Amanda Gorman AND prevent YOUR children from learning about her too.

Fine if they want to pretend reality isn't real for themselves, but they do not have the right to impose their ideology on others.

@Npars01 @GottaLaff I am interested in the idea of MAGA parents being so interested in the “protection of their children innocence”….. I wonder if they are more “control/authoritarian parents”than “protection parents”…. Power is a dangerous thing……????

@morganalafee @GottaLaff

George Lakoff describes conservative parenting as "Strict Father" ideological authoritarianism.

In such an environment, controlling the flow of information to women and children is a critical function of maintaining patriarchal control.

Information asymmetry requires withholding data. It's used to keep power & control.

@Npars01 Oh wow, hadn't thought about Lakoff for a while. Have liked what I've read of his, but ought to read more.

@Npars01 @GottaLaff Yup, sounds like the Republican playbook… DeSantis seems to be the figurehead for this type of “parenting/governance”……. Hopefully voters will continue to show Republicans the door in municipal, state and federal elections and continue to develop proper education programs to motivate and educate the upcoming generations…….

@morganalafee @Npars01 @GottaLaff

the -authoritarian- conception of power is a very dangerous thing (threat based, power OVER others ).

But that's only one way to wield power. Power is: the ability to make binding decisions, nothing more, nothing less.

Egalitarian minded folks do that via shared input, cooperation and collaboration- aka via democracy

It speaks volumes about how many implicit biases we all hold that so many of us generally think of "power" as a dangerous thing.

@CJPaloma @Npars01 @GottaLaff I think, as you mentioned, egalitarian power is thought of as a “soft” power to encourage co-operatively between “equals” where the conditions push society to see ALL members as equal partipants …..
The word “power” has a generally negative connotation because of its general use in a military context ….
I use it in that sense because of the fractured society is see in the “United States”.

@morganalafee @Npars01 @GottaLaff

understood. I'd go even further and say military might the world over (state sanctioned use of force) has had a huge effect on the establishment of countries...meaning most countries were in significant ways established by conquest/colonization (force)...so it makes sense that our "general" thoughts about power are about the authoritarian forms of it.

"Power corrupts" is taken as such a truism -because- authoritarian forms of power have been so pervasive.

@Npars01 @morganalafee @GottaLaff actually, it's not fine. As a citizen, I need other citizens to have a baseline of knowledge about things. It's how we coexist. It's not a high bar, but saying things like "you can't learn about racism or civil rights or LGBTQ people" doesn't clear it.

I have to interact with these children and they will eventually be running things while I'm still alive. I'm ok with parent input as to how and when but not a veto.

@jamie @Npars01 @GottaLaff And I agree……education, information, theatre, poetry, movies and exposure to life!! in more than the local neighborhood helps develop and prepare children for their place in society….. how can their parents be so short sighted….. to rob their children of life experience…. Cowards!!!
@morganalafee Racism, bigotry, fear of “the other,” desire for power and eradication
@GottaLaff they are just nuts down there in Florida. Let’s make DeSantis Never becomes our President

@GottaLaff. She's right, of course. Salon:
"Here is a partial list of the dozens of scholars, authors, and other public thinkers whose work has now been declared "illegal" and a "thought crime" by DeSantis and his agents and subsequently marked for removal from the AP African-American Studies course":

Kimberlé Crenshaw
Angela Davis
bell hooks
Ta-Nehisi Coates
Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor
Nell Irvin Painter
Manning Marable
Cathy Cohen
Henry Louis Gates, Jr.
James Cone
Nikki Giovanni
Barbara Fields

@GottaLaff

I'm gutted too Amanda...

@GottaLaff School or district policy should never (never) be set because of a single parent's complaints. Public schools exist to serve entire communities. Why are these boards so craven, and why are their operating policies so bad?
@GottaLaff please provide alt text for this image to make it accessible to all.
@Prainbow Sometimes I'm in a place where I am unable to do that. I often make that effort. This time though, I was in a surgery center, outside in the rain, waiting for my husband to be released.
@GottaLaff Target caves and pulls Pride merchandise after complaints and this poem gets banned after one single complaint. Why does the minority keep winning?
@LexiGirl Bullies often do. They intimidate.
