I am delighted to say that I will be joining the Colorado School of Mines CS@Mines πŸ’»πŸ€– as an Assistant Professor πŸ‘¨β€πŸ« this January!

I love the people here, and I am super excited to be a part of this growing department and also for the new #robotics graduate and undergraduate programs.

I am also excited because πŸ”οΈColorado is a wonderful place to live (and where I grew up). Golden is nestled at the base of the rockies and provides outstanding access for outdoor activities ⛷️πŸ₯ΎπŸš΅β€β™€οΈas well as close proximity to Denver πŸŒ†

At Mines, I plan research aerial robots, view planning, and multi-robot teams with applications to #drone filming and videography, infrastructure inspection, and mine safety, search and rescue.

If any of this piques your interest, and you are considering applying to graduate programs (MS or PhD) this fall, please reach out!

Also, if you want to join my lab:

What would you do, and what kind of background might you have?

I expect to primarily hire students with backgrounds in computer science or engineering. And, we will do work spanning from theory to practice for aerial and mobile robots.

You may focus on research involving theory (planning and control) and simulation, experiments with aerial robots in motion capture (esp. teams of robots filming people!), and eventually field experiments (Mines has a mine! https://mining.mines.edu/edgar-experimental-mine/ βš’οΈπŸͺ¨).

@micahcorah Congrats! πŸŽ‡  βœ¨ 🌠

I'd apply to join just so I could move back to CO, but uh, I think my field is a little far off base...

@SRLevine Thankfully, I'm not the only person at Mines πŸ˜‰

If you look around, you might find someone who is a good fit!

@micahcorah I'm actually pretty happy where I am, I'm just whining about the lack of transit/bike infrastructure (I also miss the funky arts and music scene).
@SRLevine I'm interested in funky arts and music... Any recommendations?
@micahcorah I was based in Fort Collins and didn't own a car so everything I'm familiar with is there. I used to volunteer at Wolverine Farm Publishing when they ran a non-profit bookstore inside one of the local coffee shops, they no longer do that, but they run plenty of events in their own space (https://www.wolverinefarm.org/). FoCoMx was also fun, but it's mostly indoors in poorly ventilated venues and I'm not sure I'd go nowadays.
