I have written nearly 200k in my space opera series, Distant Stars, but I have trouble remembering everything in my #fiction universe, especially details such as a character’s eye colour, home planet, age etc. So, I created a #wiki using #Obsidian.

It’s still early days and I have to reread my novels to get the details. 😅

I’m finding #Obsidian the best tool to use to build this Wiki.

Do you have a Wiki for your fiction?

@liztai Me too :)

I’m creating the wiki and outline and drafting in the same vault. Each scene’s outline is the markdown metadata in the header. I still link to all the pages in the draft… the places, people, worldbuilding. I may write some custom scripts for when I want to export the manuscript without any links.

@liztai I have problems remembering the lyrics of my own songs... I cannot even imagine remembering the details or a novel. 😆

For my wiki needs I use #PmWiki

It is written in PHP and it is #OpenSource

@liztai I use Scrivener for my wiki 😊.

@liztai ....I have a 27-gallon tote full of chaos.

now I one day hope to have a wiki.

that is a really good idea.

@dharmadischarge My desire to have a wiki for my fiction universe is what led me to Obsidian :D

@liztai It seems really cool.

I dread the process of having to go through all my journals.

but Obsidian is a really interesting software.

@liztai no, but that’s a great idea! I’ve been using Scrivener character sketches so far.
@liztai I certainly do have a wiki for my fiction - and non-fiction. I use #TiddlyWiki since it’s very customisable, and I apply the principles of the #Zettelkasten approach: atomic notes, densely linked, to construct larger work from the bottom up. But #scrivener also allows for wiki-like links, and I use this feature to a certain extent.
@liztai I've never wikied, but I've just finished my first novel and yeah, it's hard to keep everything in your head at once!
@liztai Been using Scrivener for creative writing, but I can see how Obsidian can work too. A wiki ertainly is the way to go.
@cydonian I used to use Scrivner, am now wondering if I should return to it. It must've advanced a lot since I used it last (around 2016 or so)
@liztai I always wrote stories with only a few characters and in much smaller scope, so no, I have never done that.
@liztai while I'm not currently ready, this is something I plan to do with my main two worlds (different pen-names). 🙂
@liztai
I'm using my compulsive stationary buying for good and jot down details in a tabbed notebook as I go. Clunkier than computer files, but the satisfaction of using one of those "Ooooooh! That's an _beautiful_ notebook! It must be mine!!!" is worth it. After all - they'll be around regardless, so it's not a question of space.
@liztai Using Obsidian as well!
