'I live in #Alberta in a very #UCP town. I ordered a NDP sign and I was shocked to see the volunteer who delivered it today. It was someone who I know was pro UCP. What was the trigger that made them shift to NDP??'

@gemelliz @timewiththea Have been door knocking in a UCP stronghold and hearing that a lot. Sadly a lot of UCP supporters I know will vote but are too ashamed to have a UCP sign on their lawn.
@gemelliz @timewiththea This has always been on the UCP agenda. Whether it's Danielle Smith or Jason Kenney, if you give them enough years they will do it. They must be stopped. #abpoli

@ned @timewiththea

"Smith wants to pull out of the Canada Pension Plan in favour of a provincial plan, but the idea has little public support."

Maybe the NDP should be amplifying this one, simple message..

Made-in-Alberta pension plan isn't resonating with voters: poll

The Leger poll shows only 21 per cent are in favour of replacing the Canada Pension Plan with an Alberta version

@gemelliz @timewiththea voters in the next federal election need to be reminded that Poilievre would like to gut the CPP altogether.

@rich1trotter @timewiththea

Agree. #Poilievre will start by raising the CPP eligibility to 67 years as did his 'mentor' Harper. And then poof, gone.

#cdnpoli #Canada #seniors #alberta #CPP

@gemelliz @rich1trotter

Your an optimist . Like Alberta the goal is to take it over, give the money to oil corps as ,investments , and bankrupt CPP to make a dependent slave cl;ass working until death .

@PBruce @rich1trotter

..."bankrupt CPP to make a dependent slave class working until death." πŸ’€β€‹

Pat, you never pull any punches. πŸ˜‚ β€‹πŸ˜β€‹

I hope you have good holiday weekend, despite it all - πŸ₯³β€‹

@gemelliz @rich1trotter

Ty, I have been retired for 8 years now ,so it's all a holiday , and I am not joking,as that was what Alberta did with pension funds.Nothing as saucy as a Newfoundlander with a pension , freedom πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‚ My job did not allow me to speak .Free,free at last

@PBruce @rich1trotter "nothing as saucy as a Newfoundlander with a pension". πŸ€£β€‹ πŸ€£β€‹
and spend every damn penny..

@gemelliz @rich1trotter

Oh no worries .No pockets in a shroud πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‚

@PBruce @rich1trotter

"No pockets in a shroud"
..my mum used to say that πŸ˜‘β€‹ she taught me well.

@gemelliz @rich1trotter

Yes, wise advice . MY proudest achievement was when my oldest son thanked us for not making him materialistic - he's an experienced Engineer, not for money, but because he likes to build

@gemelliz @rich1trotter

#Cdnpoli All of a sudden the down sized elderly have some value . Good luck with that , retirement grows on ya , no hassle, no clocks, no arsehole in charge . no forced work in unsafe conditions., highly recommend it .

Why rethinking retirement might help solve Canada's demographic crunch | CBC Radio

Canada is being hit by a demographic crisis, sometimes called β€œthe grey wave.” While the economy is adding jobs, economists say the crisis is more than a numbers game and ageism might be costing firms invaluable institutional experience and productivity.

CBC
@PBruce @gemelliz and reduced income tax.

@rich1trotter @gemelliz

Generally yes, but depends on age and circumstances, I retired before 65 , so no change Definitely reduced costs , no cost to go to work , more time to do stuff yourself

@rich1trotter

I've done some work, but it was for free, for people who could never afford to pay for it and deserved some help

@PBruce @rich1trotter "Changing the discourse around older workers can benefit employee and employer alike"

The last few elections have highlighted the desperate need for polling station workers - a perfect job for retired individuals - however, in Ontario you now must commit to a 12 hour day - a deal-breaker for many.

An easy situation to "re-think" - why not simply divide the job into two 6/hour shifts to "benefit the employee and the employer"

#VoteTO

@gemelliz @rich1trotter

I agree ,there are/were lots of options , but really no desire or understanding . You can't pay me enough to do the work i did, too much work , so i have done some for free where motivated to help someone, and you can stick management jobs, had enough of that garbage. Have my own small business as a money hobby, I call the shots. Will not work for someone else - contract work if any, but no desire & No need

@gemelliz @PBruce @rich1trotter also consider: older folks are more susceptible to big problems if they contract #covid19. I'd offer to help, if not for that. I simply cannot risk (more) long-covid because someone with "just a cold" sneezes on me :-(
@gemelliz @PBruce I would not do that because Covid poses a bigger risk than we have been led to believe. I taught for the first years of the pandemic and there is no way I am going back.

@gemelliz @rich1trotter @timewiththea

Pensions plans are investments in people, PP doesn't believe in investments.

Like most modern Conservatives, the government and the economy are just a smash and grab game in an attempt to squeeze/steal as much wealth out of a system as they can today, because Jesus is returning....or something.

@karlmorant @gemelliz @rich1trotter federal pensions have no need to invest. They don't even need to deduct contributions. The govt creates the funds to pay pensioners at will, whether the fund is short or not.

CPPIB is mostly lining the pockets of industry, particularly the financial industry middlemen.

One of Canada's largest investors is a useless fraud. Why doesn't the govt of the day have more direction over that spending, ensuring its spent in the interest of Canadians?

@karlmorant @gemelliz @timewiththea I agree that it is an investment because the benefit pays more than 5 times per month what the average monthly contributions were for people who contribute the maximum.

@rich1trotter @gemelliz @timewiththea

From a strictly financial sense yes, but from a moral and human perspective, investing in the wellbeing, safety and health of those who have built this country before us deserve it.

@rich1trotter @gemelliz @timewiththea or invest the fund in bitcoing, which would be about the same thing.

@gemelliz @timewiththea

In this Alberta election, it is a choice between:

Religious extremism and a modern society.

Between autocracy and democracy.

Between corporate control, and freedom.

Between health and illness.

Between reality and QAnon.

Only the NDP has stated that they will protect the most basic, normal and cherished facets of society.

Make a plan to vote NDP, because the haters all vote!

@gemelliz @timewiththea

Wait..."alluding", they said they'd actually do it many times.

@gemelliz @timewiththea Take a gander at Texas/Florida. Pretty close to PPs Canada.

@Yup_Its_Holly @timewiththea

..and Danielle Smith's #Alberta:
"I look at the Americans. I look to Ron DeSantis in Florida and Kristi Noem in South Dakota," said Smith.
πŸ‘‰β€‹ For Canadians - Governor Kristi Noem attended the 2023 NRA convention & boasted about guns and her 2yr old granddaughter.
"I wanna reassure you, she already has a shotgun and she already has a rifle and she's got a little pony named Sparkles too. So the girl is set up,” said Noem
