I was on Twitter for five years and I ended up with 8,000 followers.

I've been on Mastodon for five months, and I already have 16,000 on here.

I think the biggest difference is that Mastodon just leaves me alone to do whatever I feel like doing, whereas Twitter would go out of its way to punch me in the head anytime I tried to enjoy the platform.

@lowqualityfacts this is a high-quality fact!
@lowqualityfacts That, and we love you here even though you are destroying democracy.
@lowqualityfacts well you just put out awesome content. Why wouldn't people want to follow you?

@lowqualityfacts
I think part of it too is that Mastodon users are starved for content. Please note that is not intended as a dunk on Mastodon.

On the fowl site, end users are fed from global content and really don't need to follow someone to get their content, but on Mastodon that is not the case.

On Mastodon, you really do need to follow someone to get their content, unless you are on the same server anyway. This difference causes more people to `follow` than would on the fowl site.

@nikatjef @lowqualityfacts There's also not *quite* enough grabass here yet (for me).
@lowqualityfacts After under a month of using it regularly, it's already a very different feel on here. I still have that reflexive "who goes there!" impulse when I get a follow request, but that's more about my personal circumstances - it feels like there's more room here, in general, for good faith.
@lowqualityfacts Punches in the head from Twitter? Sounds just like the platform I knew & loved /s
@lowqualityfacts ok Selena you can stop bragging now
@lowqualityfacts I was an early adopter of Twitter, I was there since it’s second year and I had about 2,500 followers when Elon permanently suspended my account. I’ve been on Mastodon since November and I have about 750 followers already.
The thing that really bugs me though is that because my Twitter account was permanently suspended (was it because it was liberal? Because I said unflattering true things about Elon?) I couldn’t keep my list of follows. I miss my old crowd.
@lowqualityfacts plus, we’re more truly low quality here on Mastodon 😝
@lowqualityfacts We're all very, very proud of you.

@lowqualityfacts

That's an aspect of Twitter and other algorithmically manipulated social media platforms that I never considered before.

These platforms seem to go out of their way to immiserate. They amplify hateful content & generally go out of their way to rain on people's parades.

They 'de-happy' people. They rob people of a right to feel joy in the world.

I read comments in response to a picture of a flower or a kitten and feel shocked by text showing a deep dissatisfaction with life.

@lowqualityfacts The algorithm on Twitter is a force to be reckoned with. I get double the engagement on my posts here on the tusk site with one third the followers.
@lowqualityfacts That's impressive! I've been on the birdsite for almost 5 years and cracked the 10k right before EM bought it. After 5 months I have... 1.5k followers here. What's your secret? 😉
@lowqualityfacts using this math, I was overrated on Twitter… but seriously. I was kind of overrated on Twitter.
@lowqualityfacts today I learned I am really bad at self promotion

@lowqualityfacts

We are high quality people so it takes more of us to absorb the low quality facts.

@lowqualityfacts plus you have sexy teacher rabbits with eyeglasses…
@lowqualityfacts
I was on for 11 years, accumulated just over 3000 followers. Then got knocked down to zero. Started a new account, got up to about 300. I concentrated more on people I wanted to associate with. It was better that way. I left when em took over and said trump could come back. I've been here since Nov and have 100 followers. But I enjoy the interaction more. Quality over quantity.
@lowqualityfacts
But there was more music sharing there. We need more of it here.

Marvin Gaye - What's Going On (Album Version)Couldn't find this anywhere on here, thought I'd do this a little justice.

@lowqualityfacts I’ve been on mastodon for all of 90 minutes now, and this is my favorite post here to date. 🙏
@lowqualityfacts The REAL difference is that your followers here are actual real people.
@lowqualityfacts hey everyone, this one is succeeding time to cut’em down!
@lowqualityfacts I’m pretty much convinced most people on the bird site have lost any sense of humor they might’ve had due to the stress of being bullied, trolled etc.
It’s much calmer here and more ‘normal’ which is one reason I hang around for a bit. 😊
@lowqualityfacts Twitter is noisy. Mastodon is signaly.

@lowqualityfacts

The low quality facts market was much more saturated on twitter so there was much more competition.

@lowqualityfacts everytime i post a selfie i got a bunch of reply guys in my dms or being horny on main under my posts lol
And if i talk about serious stuff i get "well, actually you're wrong," *10 tweets long thread trying to mansplain my own shit to me*

@lowqualityfacts
Who doesn't like a good punch in the head?... maybe a 4x4 or a tire swing... saves from spending money on alcohol and drugs.

What were we talking about? Oh yeah, I'll leave you alone for five years on a platform. Sure!

@lowqualityfacts Getting punched in the head by computers was invented by Douglas Engelbert in 1968 before we even had the technology to make it work reliably. The man was a true visionary.
@lowqualityfacts I enjoy your posts. I think part of your success on Mastadon is because there is less competition for attention here than on the twitter hellsite. It’s just quieter here so your posts can stand out more. You don’t have to compete with all the needy fans of the very Cheeto genius.
