If you're cis, I'd like you to read this article and learn that Missouri is about to enact a full ban on transition healthcare for transgender people. The deadline is April 27.

No cisgender person I've shared this with has had any idea that this is a ban, not a regulation - the requirements are impossible to meet.

I would also ask that you share this information with three other cis people today, preferably ones in or near #Missouri .

Thank you. (Update: The ban is temporarily restrained until July 24, with a new hearing about a preliminary injunction on July 20. The ban cannot be implemented until then. But the Missouri GOP is determined to ban youth trans care and sports participation, and keep allowing literal children to get married.) (Update late May: The Missouri legislature ended trans healthcare coverage for ALL minors, all people on Medicaid, and all incarcerated people. This is an absolute disaster - it means that all anyone needs to do to restrict trans healthcare for paying adults is to declare us criminals - but it is at least not a flagrant violation of the lawmaking process like Bailey's "emergency rule" was.)

Emergency Rule Seriously Restricts Trans Health Care For Adults, Minors in Missouri

Via a sweeping emergency rule, the state's Attorney General has made it nearly impossible for trans people in Missouri to receive standard medical treatment.

These same haters are the people who give permits & take cutbacks from polluters even though (among other things) they are known to disrupt hormones & they can cause hermaphroditism and unambiguous genitalia. They harrass trans kids and other victims to deflect from anybody considering their possible part in the issue. Why don't trans advocates expose the chemical industry donors who (could) be responsible for the "increase" in kids' need for gender confirmation?
(1/3)
@holyramenempire
I apologize for my previous toot because I know it is completely natural that a certain percentage of the human race doesn't (biologically) fit in one or either gender.
I just want to suggest a counter attack that might effectively shut them up, which they will do if their money is threatened.
Anti-trans nuts can't bring themselves to accept that nowadays we have the ability to correct the mistake when a doctor or parents impose the wrong identity on a person. (2/3)
@holyramenempire
This article discusses:
Do EDC (endocrine-disrupting chemicals) exposures cause sexual organ malformations, stunted reproductive development? Do fetal exposures to EDCs alter sex phenotypes? Do they change later gender-related neurobiological characteristics & behaviors...?
Trans ppl could win against them, bcs they can't prove that their chemicals DIDN'T cause gender ambiguity because it does in animals, fish & insects.

Are EDCs Blurring Issues of Gender?

PubMed Central (PMC)
@MsSmartyPants I get your point but this is harmful in other ways. Trans identities have been around for as long as humans. We dont need any chemicals to develop our own identities and for most trans ppl i know including myself that means as soon as you are conscious you know If you're a boy, girl or none of it. Making a point that having a certain gender is probably just a defect is an offense.
@MsSmartyPants Also since you can't ask a fish about its gender I'm sure you're talking about sex. Where i live you have a chromosome test when you come out as trans bcs it speeds up legal matters if it's chromosomal. The doc told me that's true for less than 1% of ppl transitioning. It's not anything you can prove in humans.
@senfex
Thank you. As a grandparent of beautiful queer grandchildren and trans in-laws,
I wanted my toot to evoke responses from knowledgeable people. I'm grateful.
@holyramenempire this is devastating. The Federal Government can’t do anything (or they won’t)? IDK but if there was ever a time for them to step-in, it would be now. We’ve never had equality, justice and liberty FOR ALL??! 🤬🤬🤬

@IAmSuzi @holyramenempire

It is far easier for people in the US to just keep their heads down, and play the game how it's designed... But, sooner or later, that's going to stop working.

One of these days, people will have to choose between the Constitution and the Declaration, and anyone with any sense of self-preservation would plead for the latter.

Then again, this country was founded and built by hypocrisy. Land of the free? Since when?

"It's called the American Dream, because you have to be asleep to believe it."
-George Carlin

@tubbyfatfrick @holyramenempire that’s spot on… I saw this the other day. You might appreciate the sentiment.

@holyramenempire
" bar anyone with an “existing mental health comorbidity” like depression or autism from receiving gender-affirming care, and require than trans people be monitored and tracked for at least 15 years beginning at the start of any medical transition process."
😐

OK so much wrong with that I have no idea where to even begin. This is so cynical.

@Zumbador @holyramenempire Let them buy guns? We live in lunacyland. Book banning. Is insane. Intruding into private lives? Appalling!
And armed nut cases? Travesty of corrupt capitalism.
Nothing has done more damage to Our country. Billionaires bribes.
@holyramenempire I wonder how Kansas City will fight this. They have just banned conversion therapy in KC I believe.
@holyramenempire These people believe they can make medical decisions forcing others to fit into their world where white men rule: this is a very slippery slope, these same people will likely ban vasectomies at some point.
@holyramenempire criminalising a persons existence is one step closer to justifying elimination entirely. It’s very terrifying and people should be more upset about this..
@TransitBiker @holyramenempire Someone said it was never about drag queens. When you have people like the Proud Boys descending on a library to protest a drag queen reading *The Mouse Who Ate a Cookie *to 4-year-olds, it's no leap for people, e.g., legislators, school board members, to fire a trans female teacher for wearing a dress and heels. MO isn't a one-off. In TX, the AG asked for driver's license info on trans motorists. The DMV denied his request, but it's still disturbing.
@holyramenempire Fragile cis dudes are out here getting their legs extended surgically so they can feel tall and more manly but GOD FORBID I take a pill that makes me hate my body less.
@robotfactory i kinda want leg extensions now so that my torso doesn't feel as big...

@robotfactory @holyramenempire I was just in Las Vegas for work. Goddamn, that place...

So, brief background: One of my friends was talking about "comphet". I'd not heard that term before, so I assumed it was _competitive_ heterosexuality, not _compulsory_ heterosexuality. I've had this brainworm ever since. Big stupid truck? Competitive heterosexuality... Etc...

Back to Las Vegas: I'm watching the most painfully awful cishet people that look miserable to be around, lots of plastic surgery, etc. I come up with a new term: "Competitively cisgender" Compcis is, of course, totally OK and enshrined in law 🙃

@imwillow @holyramenempire "Compcis" also sounds like compensating for something. I like it.

@robotfactory
I wouldn't want to be the pharmacist that has to tell those same fragile cis dudes that they can't fill their prescription anymore for the low dose Estradiol that they use to treat their receding hairline.

@holyramenempire

@mnemonicoverload Wait, is that a thing? Not just, like finasteride and the like?
@holyramenempire I’m in Canada and am absolutely horrified by the right wing attacks on trans people, their rights to live their lives and to receive medical care.

@holyramenempire

it doesn’t matter if it’s a ban or a regulation. it’s wrong.

I’ll not post my solution because I try to avoid controversial toots. let’s just say it involves firearms and brick walls and leave it at that.

@holyramenempire
They really are going after the most vulnerable people in our society because they think that nobody will care and trans people are easy targets. Seems to me that there has to be some lawsuits coming...
@Bringiton @holyramenempire That Part. After trans people, who will be next?!
@holyramenempire I try and avoid stereotyping but time and again Republicans show in very real, and measurable ways they truly are the worst form of human. 20 years ago I argued that Republicans were a necessary balance to Democrats liberal ideology to make for a good overall melting pot in this country. But in the last twenty years Republicans have gotten so salty due to Obama that they are spoiling the soup to the point that something needs to be done. And I don't subscribe to this notion that it's only a few Republicans doing this. These ass clowns get elected back into office again and again meaning there is a majority out there that supports these actions. So yeah......
@holyramenempire I am sick of all our judgement and hate. Can we please let people shine and let God decide on other aspects?
@holyramenempire I am so sorry this is happening. Horrifying. Regarding hormones and other medication for gender affirmation, as a cis middle aged woman, I wonder why there is little in the press about the enormous amount of gender 'affirmation' for cis menopausal women taking hormone replacement therapy (for hot flashes, and preventative health) as well as cis men taking Viagra to 'afFIRM' their masculinity. Our trans citizens should all have this SAME right of affirming care!!

@holyramenempire I have heard of this and it truly baffles me how backwards America is getting now.

"Land of the free".

@holyramenempire What is “cis” ? I know what trans is.

@MiMi1026 @holyramenempire

Cis is short for "cisgender". A cisgender person agrees with the sex they were assigned at birth. A transgender person does not.

@MiMi1026 @holyramenempire

If you don't know what "cis" is, then you don't know that "trans" may often be used as short for "Transgender" but it is really a Latin prefix meaning 'the other side of', and "cis" is another antonym prefix, "this side of".
https://www.etymonline.com/word/cis-
The most frequent use until recently was Roman historical discussion of "cisalpine Gaul" versus "transalpine Gaul", for the Italian versus French side of the alps. Also used a lot in Chemistry:

cis- | Meaning of prefix cis- by etymonline

CIS- Meaning: "on the near side of, on this side," from Latin preposition cis "on this side" (in reference to place or… See origin and meaning of cis-.

@MiMi1026 @holyramenempire

Oh, and if you recall that "Sylvan" is a Latin word meaning "The woods", then you can see that the Romans were referring to the "Land on the Other Side of the Woods", for Dracula's home in Transylvania.

Cannot confirm whether they called eastern Hungary "Cisylvania"...

@RoyBrander @holyramenempire I know😉 just want other peoples opinions🧐dumb like a fox.

@holyramenempire

By making people suffering from depression ineligible for gender-affirming treatment, they are basically hoping that we kill ourselves rather than transition. That's how I read this, anyway.

@holyramenempire
I am sick and tired of conservatism destroying our liberties.

First, they go for trans people, next, they'll likely go for autistic people like me (y'know, the "vaccines cause autism" bullshit).

Also, they're trying to make kids Republicans by putting Republican viewpoints in workbooks and stuff. And they say the left is indoctrinating kids?

Seriously, they're trying to control us. They literally put a column by Ben Sasse in a textbook.

Help. We'll need the UN.

@south_lib

please don't type that way - it is very inaccessible to screen reader users

@holyramenempire

@holyramenempire so this would stop ALL great augmentatuion surgeries, and in fact all alterations of the human body in anyway whatsoever? I ask because it would seem undemocratic to allow SOME people to change their body looks without allowing ALL people the choice to do so. Oh and it should also ban all tattoos and piercings right?
@holyramenempire um…not Great but Breast…my bad
@holyramenempire Not too much can be done until Missouri voters get as good and tired of radical Republican governance as Kansas voters did of Brownback.

@holyramenempire At this point I'm woundering when people will claim asylum amidst the fact that this is literally #genocide as codified in many juristictions [i.e. #Germany: §6 Section 1 - https://www.gesetze-im-internet.de/vstgb/__6.html ]...

Cuz sooner or later @AuswaertigesAmt will have to either speak up and shelter people.

§ 6 VStGB - Einzelnorm

@holyramenempire besides that, is there anything else we can do to help? Eg anywhere we can send funds? (Being on the other side of the world)

@holyramenempire yeah, the part about proving you have no mental health comorbidities makes it a ban on its own. A mental health provider will always be able to find a mental health comorbidity. They'll just say the trans person is depressed.

I bet that any mental health provider who's willing to see trans patients and not deny them gender-affirming care is going to find themselves getting very angry letters from the state of Missouri.

@lilyamarapastor @holyramenempire
this is such a very Catch-22-esque dystopia.
"you must prove your mental health is in serious danger from gender dysphoria in order to qualify for care... but you must also prove your mental health is perfect, no problem whatsoever"
@holyramenempire Honestly I can't keep track of which states have which bans. I figure red states are somewhere between, "transitioning is next to impossible" and "we will shoot you if you use any kind of pronoun, ever".
@holyramenempire I'm in STL burbs, and this ban is inhumane, but not surprising
@holyramenempire Autism is a "comorbidity"???? Since when, Misery ?
@holyramenempire I wouldn’t limit this to CIS folks. I was aware of a really awful bill, but it looks like folks with DSM diagnosis are next.
@lucywildboots @holyramenempire Yeah, I've already seen laws that aim to deny trans-related healthcare to people who are autistic.

@holyramenempire
@hannu_ikonen
Crikey!
And then there is this nugget...

"It is an effective ban on treatment for any trans person diagnosed with a mental illness (which is a majority, according to some studies)"

There are already Repugnants who are trying to push "Transgenderism" (as they call it) as a mental health issue, meaning that just enquiring about any care would be used to justify not giving it.
Disgusting behaviour from them.

@holyramenempire Do you have a suggestion of what organization is doing good work on this issue (or a way to support your work)? My daughter moved to St. Louis a year ago and I am planning to move there in a year, so I would like to support the fight with some funds.

@holyramenempire have anxiety about your healthcare requiring insurmountable obstacles to obtain?

welp, sorry, that ticks the "you're too mentally ill" box

@holyramenempire Was once told by someone I used to respect that I was “irresponsible & ridiculous…& being manipulated by the media” for saying that legislators supporting “bathroom bills” were essentially voting for trans kids to kill themselves

That was 7 years ago. I wonder if he still thinks the laws being passed now are good because they protect his & others’ “sensibilities”. Probably, though I’ve cut ties with him, so I’ll likely never know

@holyramenempire I am also a trans-ally. Whilst I live in the UK I boost in good faith and wish you well with your struggle x
