Jeff Bezos reportedly purchased a $75 million "support yacht" with a helipad to trail his $500 million superyacht.

Meanwhile, Amazon doesn't want workers to organize for better pay and safer working conditions.

This is what oligarchy looks like.

@rbreich also he built a rocket to go to space and then went to space.

This is also what Bond villains look like.

@rbreich
I guess they skipped that part about the French revolution...possibly that Russian one as well.

@rbreich thankfully the contractor in Palmdale CA just had drivers join the Teamsters. Unfortunately, AMZN is now claiming to have (retroactively apparently) terminated the contract.

It's one thing to frown on unions, and another level of asshattery entirely to terminate a contract without notice because your contractor has a union workforce.

@rbreich Well, given his "climate pledge", surely it's made of grass and powered by sail?

Or perhaps the more likely energy is hundreds of minimum-wage, zero hour rowers.

Or...oh, right: since the Climate Pledge, Amazon's emissions are up 40%. So pretty much, this is exactly in line.

@rbreich See, if he had to pay more taxes, he might not be able to afford his support yacht!
@rbreich Apparently this isn’t even unique - apart from Bezos not being Russian/Saudi. It’s now fairly routine for hyper yachts to come with a “shadow“ - a support vessel carrying extra toys (in case the usual compliment of powerboats, jet skis and mini-subs is insufficient), accommodating crew who don’t have a berth on the main yacht as well as the helicopter(s) if you don’t want to ruin the fine lines of the main yacht with a helipad jutting out… that’s their (unpaid) taxes at work.

@rbreich

I have a $7.50 support stuffed animal

@rbreich What? No $11.5 million support support yacht? He's being so frugal.

@rbreich

Meanwhile amazon has pared staff back to the bone and has solved the customer service problem by not having any. If staff turn over quickly enough, no risk of organisation.

NOW can someone PLEASE find an alternative way to do business like, oh I don’t know, a marketplace in Cyberspace, with an escrow payment system.

NO not like that one, or that …

@rbreich We have no idea that the death of Bob Dorough would leave such void. #CapitalBill
@rbreich Support yacht. There’s a term I never thought would need to be invented.

@rbreich

I don't think this book can be found on Amazon, but there is a copy on archive org.

@rbreich "Support yacht" sounds like something from a Ray Bradbury story.
@rbreich It sounds more like capitalism being capitalism to me. Most capitalist businesses don't want their workers to organize or give them more power where they work. Amazon is just more successful at it. Oligarchy has a despotic ring to it that makes it sound like these workers are forced to work there, which technically they aren't. They're free to go try and get other crappy jobs.
Not saying it's fair or good. Just saying it's not an oligarchy really.
I honestly don't understand why the rich just hoard money, at the point thier at its just a score counter
@rbreich EAT THE RICH 💰💰💰
@rbreich
But ... but ... but that's trickle down economics!!!
@rbreich Turducken support yachts!
@rbreich or rather, kleptocracy

@rbreich @Toni Let he without a support yacht throw the first stone.

Umm, I’ll go first, then, shall I?

@rbreich Bezos left Amazon though...
@rbreich in my opinion Dick Gregory had it right almost 60 years ago when he likened the rich sitting down for a big feast and when they were done the scraps from the table were brushed off and the rest of us had to fight for them.
@rbreich meanwhile Whole Foods a joke, Zappos zapped, Amazon a seeming black market site, everything it touches dies
@rbreich you were ignoring union concerns when you forced NAFTA down our throats.
@rbreich
That newspaper business of his must be doing really well
@rbreich I read somewhere that US governments don't act according to the will of the people in the normal sense of what democracy is about. I'm going to assume you're all praying at the wall of Good Sense for symbolic reasons, and just carry on with my day.
@rbreich
They screwed up their search really badly the site is garbage
@rbreich
I believe he should buy a $10 million support yacht for the support yacht, just in case he needs a less conspicuous yacht when visiting employees.
@rbreich mother in law suite for a billionaire. #taxtherich
@rbreich been trying to convince my health insurance company that i need a support yacht for my condition

Jeff Bezos New Sailboot:

This Sailboot need a Support-Vessel for all the Toys:

Whauu !!!!

@energisch_ @rbreich

@rbreich If he crashed flying to his yacht in a storm, wouldn't that be a stupid death?
