For those of us who were around for the cold war, either older and had to do "duck and cover" drills or younger and were watching movies like The Day After or Threads - we constantly thought about nuclear war.

The concept of building large nuclear arsenals, the threat of MAD (mutually assured destruction) was insane.

The end of the cold war felt like it alleviated pressure for a long time, even though smaller states did get nukes, it didn't have that same weight.

But here comes Trump...

Donnie, completely out of his element and having eliminated any competent, non-ideological, or non-grifting types from his circle - now finds himself listening to the advice of the worst folks possible.

So here we are, with the doomsday clock just 89 seconds from midnight. Donnie threatening Russia with nukes after an unprovoked strike on Iran.

I didn't want to be here again.

Sometimes my work life bleeds into my private life.

I have a backlog lof political issues. The priority of these issues changes often as the political climate changes. I find that I have to stack rank them like I would features on an application backlog.

Near the top (always) are:
1. Climate change
2. Campaign Finance Reform
3. Income inequality
4. Social inequality
5. Immigration reform

What happens though is stuff like the 2020 elections, poor turnout, apathy, and the insertion of an incompetent geriatric in the White House and then I have to change priorities.

Now the number 1 needs to be regime change.

All this being said, none of this happens w/o voters having more power (which means getting money out of politics) and tackling apathy (which means getting more attractive candidates into primaries).

I don't know where I'm going with this btw... just sharing wtf is going on in my head while I should be working.

How about the rest of you? What are your priorities? What's eating you?

Fighting fascism and misinformation is becoming that much harder with AI generated videos getting to the point where they look real enough to be, well, real.

We are past the weird fingers and Will Smith eating s'getti - we are in a place where you can make it look like protestors are attacking law enforcement with water balloons filled with oil.

And congress sits there doing nothing.

AI Is Spreading—and Countering—L.A. Protest Misinformation

AI deepfaked videos of the protests are circulating the web. AI chatbots are also fact-checking false claims on X.

Disinformation kills

I'm going to continue to use AI - and on the day it can do more than just give me good excel formulas or half-assed code that I have to debug and adjust - I'll let you know.

Don't get me wrong, it has been good for simple things - but anything that requires any sort of complexity none of the existing big ones that I've fucked with have been worth being worried about yet.

It's a grift unlike anything I've ever seen during my nearly sixty years in politics.
