I was 12 when gender dysphoria became acute, but I didn't have a name for it. I was in a suburb of Chicago. It was 1974.

I was 14 in 1976 when Dr. Renee Richard's hit the news and I had a name for what I was experiencing. But I wasn't a wealthy ophthalmologist.

I didn't find any resources until the 1980s and didn't transition until I was 25 in 1987. It was a scary time.
