Yep, I always found hashtags a bit icky - they get overused on other platforms, but here they are a vital indexing tool.

Hashtags are the most effective search and organization tool.
You can add a bunch of folks who like #DoctorWho into a list but they don't always talk about that so a hashtag search gets you just what you want right then.
We just need to encourage with extreme predjuice people to use them....

Sam Solomon@kbsez @timkmak one hacky idea for a timed announcement would be to use the poll closed push notification functionally that at least the default Android client has. You could create a poll that is scheduled to close when you will make the announcement and tell people to vote if they want to know about the news. Could then reply to your own poll with a link to the announcement post once it's up to make things easy for people coming from the push notification.
