Ron Gilbert (GrumpyGamer)I gave up over a 150,000 followers on Twitter to be on Mastodon full time. Yes, the engagement and reach is a lot less, but I'll build it back up and it will be worth it. I hate to see people run back to Twitter because of friends or careers or whatever. You know what changes that? Being on Mastodon and bring those people here. Musk is a horrible person, don't be one of his enablers.

@grumpygamer So awesome to see you say this! The more I habituate myself to Mastodon, the more I admire, respect and believe in its decentralization mission and that it can be a viable alternative to the corporatization of web technologies and experiences (and a-hole billionaire takeovers).

Even if he bought a server he couldn't buy mine and I could just block him without ever being affected by his decisions and even if he did buy my server I could easily move my account along with my following/followers and do the same.

I switched to Mastodon as my main method of social interaction around the time Space Karen started unplugging servers like a madman. Forcing myself to use it (+follow as many interesting ppl as poss) made all the difference and TBH, I hardly miss it.
Thankfully, most of my mutuals are now here also, but not all. So sometimes, I don my wetsuit & dive back into the swamp just to do a quick catch-up (+support) the cool things my fellow creators have yet to post here. 😅

I’m not an overly passionate or effective social media-er (I don’t have the knack) - and I miss some of the regular tweeters I followed - but generally, I like the folk and the content I see here 🙏 It’s refreshingly earnest and uncluttered 😀
