This year I’m trying to send a message to Apple with one of the t-shirts in @atpfm’s WWDC sale. It’s the same message I was sending in 2013 when I wrote this: https://hypercritical.co/2013/03/08/the-case-for-a-true-mac-pro-successor

I think Apple should make and support the Mac Pro because it’s an essential part of making “the best computers in the world.”

I believe in the Mac Pro, and I hope some kindred spirits show up at Apple Park during WWDC wearing this (admittedly dorky) shirt to let Apple know that we exist.

The Case for a True Mac Pro Successor

(Yes, even though few people buy the Mac Pro. Yes, even if it’s not a profitable product in isolation.)
We also brought back this classic shirt, which honors Pro Macs over the years, if not specifically the Mac Pro. (Also available in white.) https://atp.fm/store
ATP Store — Accidental Tech Podcast

Three nerds discussing tech, Apple, programming, and loosely related matters.

@siracusa wore my “Grey on darker grey” version yesterday.

I’m also trying to convince an associate that Cotton Bureau is worth going to for shirts for his company as they’re much higher quality. I’m using ATP as a good example: Do you do the annual sales so they’re the higher quality screen printed shirts from them? Or some other reason.

@MacBalance @siracusa I really enjoy ATP but I have bought more of their shirts than necessary BECAUSE they are Cotton Bureau. So soft and drape nicely. Chose CB for my own podcast because ATP
@siracusa I feel like this is missing the 90s era of Quadra or PowerMacs, but none of them have a good side profile. Maybe a front profile of either the 8600 or 9600 or a Quadra 700 with the "vertical" floppy visible would be interesting
@Alphacheez There's only six colors, so they can't all fit…
@siracusa @Alphacheez Which one falls off when the new Mac Pro is released?
@Alphacheez @siracusa would the 9500 with its extra side bit be distinctive enough?
@Alphacheez @siracusa The PowerMac 8600 was my first Mac. Learned a bunch on that beige box.
@siracusa Swell merch! Too bad you guys don’t offer tall sizes, the M1 Max one I own is just decorative, can’t wear it unfortunately.
@siracusa Hi John. I own this shirt and would like to know for the record which models the earliest two are.

@mike The first one represents the fastest Mac that used the case shape from the original Macintosh. Depending on the year, that might be the original Mac, the Mac 512K, the Mac Plus, the Mac SE, or the Mac SE/30.

The second represents the various Macs that used the case shape introduced with the Mac II (e.g., the Mac II, Mac IIx, Mac IIfx)

@siracusa I see. So it's more broadly defined than one particular model. Makes sense. Thank you!
@mike The magic of silhouettes!
@siracusa I have worked professionally with specimens of the first four of those (SE/30, IIx and IIfx, translucent Power Mac, Power Mac G5). After that it was all laptops. But I think there should be a place for a top of the line Mac Pro. Just not for me.
@siracusa I'd love a version of that with just the Macs. (I'm not a fan of text on shirts.)
@siracusa My wheeled version is a collector's item!

@siracusa Yes! These have always been my favorite ATP shirts.

Would have loved the M1 shirt as well, but I’m _deathly_ afraid someone mistakes me for a BMW enthusiast.

@siracusa Have it from a few years ago, and still love it. 😀🤩
@siracusa Oooooh. I've the last four of those. <swoons>
@siracusa yippee! Mine shrunk and I grew beyond repair.

Note for ATP Store shoppers: If your order total is $99 or over, check your estimated shipping charges. You might save more by using Cotton Bureau’s FREE99 free shipping discount code than with the ATP member 15%-off code. I saved almost twelve bucks.

But, I mean, become a member anyway.

@FormerlyStC Genuinely not trying to be a smart aleck but isn’t 15% of anything over $80 going to be more than $12?
@santry Good question! Yes, if it’s all ATP stuff. I actually had two non-ATP shirts in my shopping cart, and the member discount only covers ATP Store items. Even so, the shipping was more than $15, so the FREE99 code would have been a better deal even with $100 of ATP merch.
@siracusa You always mention on the podcast when things are POD vs premade, and as someone who has made t-shirts for merch before, I know and can sooooo tell the difference. So what are these? Are they POD or a higher quality print? (And what kind? Plastisol? Dye sub? The intersection of tech and tshirt nerdery want to know!)
@abrahamson These are not print-on-demand. @cottonbureau can provide more details.
@siracusa @abrahamson Screen printed, water-based ink (not plastisol).
@cottonbureau @siracusa This is the best way. Excellent - thank you!
@siracusa And even if you can't change anything in it except HDs anyway?

@siracusa I will admit that I have a Mac Pro (2019). It’s a lovely machine, and the only problem with it is that it’s Intel. Sigh.

I want to believe.

@siracusa It’s the equivalent of car manufacturers making race cars. What they learn on the track ultimately benefits the daily driver.
