@paul @mmasnick as surely the most "hardcore" *original* Twitter type. (I built my whole adult social life on Twitter starting in 2009 and culminating in a list of ~200 folks that replaced my timeline, entirely, and contain my whole heart.)
you could say I noticed a decline in the sort of timeline activity I was there for *acutely* as the year 2017 began.
(the recently published outline of Twitter's anti-discovery mechanisms were a very fast and like painfully euphoric explanation.)
@paul It does not matter, they just need to hook Musk's feed to about 40 mil GPT bots set on fawning mode. He is definitely willing to pay $44 Bil to get simulacra of approval.
I would be kind of surprised if they are not surreptitiously doing something like that already. All he wants is a lot of slavishly doting comments to make up for his childhood.
@paul evidence?
I'm not skeptical, I'd like to understand better.
@paul I just saw a posting on Mastodon for a website with K-mart music tapes from the 80s (https://archive.org/details/attentionkmartshoppers) Thanks @internetarchive and @thepru
Why would I ever go back to the bird with deals like these??
@paul I was never all that hardcore, and very late to the party. I started using daily not long after EM made his offer. Very quickly I found that I'd tuned it to show me tons of interesting stuff from interesting people, and the contrast to the garbage I saw on Facebook was striking.
It was great for a short while. But the signal to noise ratio has degraded terribly since the takeover. I don't know enough to know why. I just know that it's so. Its mostly junk now and barely worth opening.
@paul My brother, who originally said i was 'overreacting' has... over the course of the past few months... suggested that things were... turning out just as bad as I warned him they would and is ALMOST at a point where he is finally considering dumping his twitter account.
He is no activist. He is a gamer.
Mostly he is just sick of how buggy and unreliable it is.
