As usual, ADHD Alien is spot on.
Love how this one is a real explanation on why and how it really works (or not) and not just relatable stuff.

“Ok, I know I often have issues just getting up and starting a task that will only take me 5 minutes in the end. But WHY is that? What happens in my brain? This topic is intricate and hard to explain in simple terms - I gave it my best shot, so please excuse the masses of text!”
@maxbvrn Oh my god! Should I talk to my doctor about ADHD?!?!
My whole life I have had this 'inspiration' where I go full-force 120% into one thing. Then go to the next. But its what I live for! And without it, I cant even get motivated to do basic things and feel terrible if I dont feel accomplished each day.
This is completely different sentiment about ADHD than I hear in media/tv! (I already have OCD. And people can only have 1 things right? XD. I dont need another lol)
@maxbvrn I don't have a diagnosed disorder, probably OCPD since I literally cannot relax until 100% of my tasks are done (or I burn out). I immediately start doing the thing because I get dopamine from ticking off a box, but I have very little feeling about the actual reward that's a result of my efforts. So it becomes extremely important to pick and choose my goals very consciously, or else I get stuck playing Factorio for a week straight.
Basically, for my brain, the important thing is 1) limiting access/exposure to distractions, and 2) blocking out time to meditate.
@maxbvrn i really like these images.
But what i struggle with if i see them: what can i do against it? what can i do to change or counteract it?
@maxbvrn this is also why we perform under last minute pressure/fear
It’s like that thing where normally, you can’t bite your own finger off. You have the power to do so, but even if you make a very firm decision to, your body won’t let you.
If a starved alligator is bumbling your way and that finger is caught in a fence? Chomp chomp! Sacrifice the digit to save the whole.
Adrenaline makes a piss poor replacement for dopamine but it gets the job done.
@maxbvrn so... when some ridiculous little thing like looking at a favorite color makes it easier to do work, is that what dopamine feels like?
(I don't *think* I have ADHD, but I have some other neurodivergent stuff, and since finally noticing that stuff like colors can give me motivation, or control over motivation, I'm being a lot more intentional about how I set up a workspace.)
