The Streets of Melbourne

There is nothing ordinary about the #commonsunflower (Helianthus annuus)… imo they’re one of the most breathtaking flowers on earth.

These ones certainly are! I’ve seen these for the last fortnight growing in the garden fronting a busy road in #Huntingdale #Australia. Took a special trip out to photograph.

I spent a whole 10 minutes in awe. Even the #bee’s couldn’t resist them.

#Sunflowers are commonly grown as a crop for its edible oily seeds. Apart from cooking oil, it is also used as livestock feed (meal), as bird food and of course as an ornamental in gardens like this one.

@3wombats each was like a great hairy bear! Like really soft and felt like stroking it (the really big one 🤣🤣). But didn’t want to ruin its structure or disturb those happy bees!

@3wombats oh, so tempted. They seemed not phased i was there. But could tell they knew of my presence but. Bees are switched on big style. 🐝🐝🐝

@NessaUndreza These little guys became very friendly. I have a picture of one sitting on my finger but I can’t seem to find it. They used to let me rescue them if they fell in and then sit on my finger to dry off. Friendliest bees I ever met. They succumbed to a very hot summer I think I don’t have them visiting anymore
