9 February 1929 | A French Jewish boy, Raymond Bialek, was born in Paris.

He arrived at Auschwitz on 9 August 1942 in a transport of 1,069 Jews deported from Pithiviers. He was among the 794 people murdered in a gas chamber after selection.

This Monday I had a poignant revelation as I left my AirBnB in Berlin. On the cobble stoned pavement outside I saw these Stumbling Blocks, brass plaques commemorating names of people murdered in the Holocaust who'd lived at that address. My Strasse alone had 4 such addresses: 22 names.

Stumbling Blocks are a project by artist Gunter Demnig that began in 1992 however it hasn't drawn unanimous support from all Jewish communities. Do you have any thoughts on this?
