I am starting my thesis research. I am looking for community health centers in a variety of locations, and looking for their websites/FB pages. I am investigating the rhetorics used surrounding trans care, trans bodies, and trans experiences within those community health centers. I am looking at their methods of community engagement with the trans community.

If you are trans (or an ally) who knows about or engages with a community health center in your area, could you please reply here or DM me? I want to cast a wide net for my research, but want to do so by starting with actual trans people in those communities.

@BriannaLove I go to San Francisco Community Health Center in the Tenderloin for PCP and some of my gender-affirming care (mostly HRT). They're lovely folks with some great programs. I haven't the slightest what their online presence looks like outside of MyChart though!

@BriannaLove I think you had some comments about community health centers here in SF. There is a more general LGBTQIA+ community health center called Strut/Magnet. It’s not specifically trans, but they are inclusive to the queer community with trans/NB on staff.

State run health systems are a little bit far afield from what I'm researching. Here in the US, large cities (mostly) have community health organizations that operate outside of the normal hospital led health systems. Often privately funded or funded through federal grants, they target low income and marginalized communities.

I don't believe we broadcast ANY rhetoric around trans health issues, but I have several trans patients I see and I'm routinely providing behavioral health care for other trans folx. Currently only thinking the US. But, I have ideas on how to expand the research into other areas.

I'm wanting to examine rhetorics used, and then ask if there is a difference in rhetorical strategies in their public engagement depending on region of the US. I hesitate to go outside the US as it is a thesis and not a dissertation.

Congratulations!

My experience is that research requests (via the LGBTQ charity i used to work for) had a low response rate. I'm glad to hear you've bucked the trend.

If you've shared the same request on other platforms, I'd be interested to know if that positive response shows Mastodon is a more supportive environment?

@BriannaLove I’m seen at Open Door health, a community health center which includes gender care among its specialties, in Providence RI. One of my housemates goes to Thundermist, another community health center which goes gender care and has locations in Rhode Island but outside Providence.

As far as Facebook, I will only be looking at what the centers post on FB regarding trans health. I will not be looking at anything anyone posts in response to that. So, only looking at publicly available publicity and engagement.
