South Carolina raised a confederate flag over its state house in the 1960s to show contempt for desegregation and Black Americans pursuing civil rights.

Four decades later they moved it to a flagpole at a monument to men who died fighting to preserve chattel slavery.

On 27 July 2015 Bree Newsome scaled that 30ft flagpole, removing that hateful flag. In just days the state decided to take it down permanently.

Today is the 10th anniversary of Bree Newsome's essential, moral, courageous action.

Friends, I don’t know how to explain this any more simply: there can be no such thing as an anarchist prison.

Either there is some coercive institution with a privileged relationship to violence that can put you in a cage, or there isn’t.

Prisons are not some neutral tool that could theoretically be used by a community for self-defense from aggressors, but just so happen to be used everywhere by states as tools of oppressive rule.

They *are* oppressive rule.

“But how will we deal with murderers and rapists without prisons” THEY DON’T DO THAT NOW

People really live in a world where prisons are sites of torture, rape, slavery, and mass murder, in which a fraction of all violent crimes are ever solved, in which countless *statutorily innocent people* languish in cells while people like Donald Trump are elevated to positions of power that insulate them from any legal repercussions…

…and somehow come away with the idea that “the prison” exists as some sort of Platonic Ideal for handling bad people that, somehow, for some reason, we keep messing up.

I bought some buttons.
I actually don't want people to sell their Teslas. They have a higher purpose. Each is a valuable canvas.
If mass deportation can become a reality in the United States, so can universal healthcare, accessible housing, and the expansion of public ownership.

Given that we're losing a class war, one capital started for profit and is winning, waged via fast military & police as well as slow economic & environmental violence against humanity, it's heartening to see lots of "Assassinating CEOs is good, actually" sentiment.

Just as political polarization has been good (one pole wants fascism!!) it's good when people recognize themselves as under attack, and let each other know. I suspect we're gonna need to see a lot more of that in the decades to come.
