We have exciting news to share! šŸš€

Mammoth’s App Store launch is just around the corner and we’ve created a brilliant new build for you that includes a whole new look (with app icon and alt icons), a new onboarding experience (that makes getting onto Mastodon a breeze), and a whole bunch of improvements (that make the app even better).

There’s now a new TestFlight link (the old one will stop updating, sorry!):

Using TestFlight is a great way to help developers test beta versions of their apps.

Oh, one more thing. One of the coolest things in Mammoth is the onboarding flow - native account creation, profile pics, and an incredibly useful follow suggestions graph (no more confusing ā€œWhich server should I pick?ā€ questions) - grab an account on https://moth.social when you get started with the app before your handle is gone!

@JPEGuin we’re getting so many nice clients!!! I love the onboarding process here.
@JPEGuin is there a way to trigger the onboarding flow after my account is created? I clicked on the verify button in the email on my desktop 🫢
@JPEGuin loving it. Facing a scroll related bug where the scrolling abruptly stops the first time on popping the nav. Is there any email for reporting bugs? I couldn’t find it in the settings screen of the app.
@JPEGuin Authorization was flaky for me. Had to make several attempts and once the authorization was active from the server side, the app did not recognize that it was authorized and left me at the sign in view. Killed and relaunched and it recognized that it was authorized.
@clonezone @JPEGuin Authorization was also flaky for me. I assume an issue on the server side (mastodon.social). Did eventually work but this may be a case where the app needs to be more robust in the face of intermittent server failures. Not at all clear what was happening.
@joconor @JPEGuin I haven’t had this issue with other clients.
@clonezone @JPEGuin Yeah, I tried deleting, reinstalling, and going through the auth flow again. Same flakiness. No longer think it’s any kind of intermittent server issue.

@JPEGuin nice. The new onboarding is great.

Is the new company for legal reasons, or are you collaborating with more people?

@JPEGuin the onboarding flow is a brilliant innovation. It should be the blueprint for all third party mastodon apps and for the default apps as well.
@JPEGuin I love these kinds of design stories!
@JPEGuin The new one is nice, but I will miss the old one, too. It was cute.
@JPEGuin Where’s the TestFlight for the new Mammoth build?
@JPEGuin nevermind, I see it now on your feed.
@JPEGuin Now I cant decide between Ivory and Mammoth...
@thull @JPEGuin i think it will depends on price
@arturgomes @JPEGuin Mammoth definitely offers more features, but I'm very used to tweetbots interface and the design is a bit more polished. Both top notch choices tho
@thull @JPEGuin but do we already have the price that mammoth will be at?
@arturgomes @JPEGuin Aviary (from the developer of Mammoth) used to be 2,99 monthly I think. Ivory is 1.99 rn
@thull @JPEGuin yeah but creator says before that mammoth will have a one time payments, which i prefer a lot
@arturgomes @JPEGuin In that case I will buy mammoth as well as pay for Ivory 😶
@JPEGuin yay! Thanks! I finally got to join. Been curious about Mammoth for a while now. Excited to finally see it in action.
@JPEGuin Installing now! Excited to see how it holds up against Ivory!
@JPEGuin I love this microinteraction. Great work!
@JPEGuin Been working hard I see. Exciting.
@JPEGuin sharing an image from other apps seems broken. It just inserts a file path instead of the image
@JPEGuin needed to restart the app after onboarding. I just was took back to the list of public instances
@JPEGuin nice icon. Looking forward to try the app!
@JPEGuin first impression: damn it’s smooth and nice. Only thing I immediately noticed is the jumping scroll bar that resizes during scrolling. But scrolling is buttery smooth.
@JPEGuin wait now I have two Mammoth apps on TestFlight
@JPEGuin So many great apps. But there is one thing very few apps have, which is divide and Split View, which is so useful. Testing it out.
@JPEGuin trying this and looks great!
@JPEGuin Nice, I’ll test it! The icon looks awesome! 🤩
@JPEGuin Using it now šŸ‘šŸ¼
@JPEGuin Is timeline sync no longer planned? The option is removed from settings compared to prior build.
@JPEGuin looking great. Is there any chance of OG Orange going back in as a tint? Too much stuff defaults to blue these days. Blue is the colour of the death of centralised tech from Silicon Valley.
@JPEGuin love it! Using Ivory but plan to grab Mammoth when it fully releases. As long as you allow the original app icon as an option. I like that little guy 🄹

@JPEGuin I absolutely love Mammoth. It’s my goto Mammoth client. You can read the timeline up or down, get the post recent posts, or the next batch, or everything...up to you. Multi column support in the iPad works great, and it’s available on the Mac (although not, sadly, mine).

The UI is clean. The tabs are configurable. Text size, layout, color, and highlights can all be tweaked). Notifications are completely controllable. You can share posts to other apps as links, text, or images (great for apps that don’t do good link preview). Alt text support is good (I’d like a text area for editing instead of a field, but that’s a minor fix). I’ve really enjoyed the beta. Happy to see it so close to release!

@JPEGuin Server list doesn’t load, no chance to log in
@JPEGuin ā€žboost as...ā€œ and ā€žreply as...ā€œ still broken. If you don’t have the time to fix it, at least remove it from the GUI.
@JPEGuin Love it! Mammoth and the official app are the only two apps that implemented "swipe anywhere to go back". Thank you.
@JPEGuin Love the columns layout. You’re going to give @ivory a run for the money.
