Having left Twitter for reasons, I’m dismayed to see some of my fellow refugees posting content from Twitter. RT’s. So that, to explore the content, I would need to connect to Twitter again.

Isn’t it worth the extra trouble to find the non-Twitter version of whatever it is you’re highlighting?

That is all. Thank you for listening.

@JamesGleick Use Nitter to view Twitter contents if you don’t want to go there again.
@JamesGleick
some people post a tweet along with an article, which is fine imo.
@JamesGleick Yes. Amen. Time to move on. Thank you.
@JamesGleick some people are posting the same thing on both, so there might be a mastodon version. This isn't any different than posting Instagram or TikTok on twitter though, we need federated services, not walled gardens.
@JamesGleick Nitter instances are the best way to go....until they ban them too eventually: https://github.com/zedeus/nitter/wiki/Instances

@JamesGleick I’d just suggest not following folks who’s habits annoy you. Personally, I appreciate the sense that if something significant happens over there, I hear about it.

@padams @JamesGleick

Precisely. Also no need to slavishly follow all the high profile accounts if already following others whose judgement is similar to one's own and who'll likely reblog interesting stuff anyway.

@padams That’s fair. Yet perhaps it’s worth a gentle nudge to those who might choose between a Twitter and non-Twitter source for the content they want to share.
@JamesGleick often there is no „non-twitter“ because twitter is the source.
Thank you for listening.
@JamesGleick Been here for four years now and the twitter bridge on Friendica (another older fediverse platform) was the feature. Musk broke most of it, but I will still post on twitter because there are people I want to keep in touch with same with FB and in my opinion, FB is even more evil, 2 genocides and 5 fascist leaders on their hands, there are things I still feel the need to share and moa.dot party allows things to bounce back and forth. If I'm going to use one, its no difference from using another. I have to use it if I want to stay in contact with certain people and keep working to coax them over here. There is a reason the network effect is still important.
@JamesGleick I never click twitter links. It is fortunate that some bots also link the original source as well.
@JamesGleick It’s amazing to me how many entire feeds are nothing but reposts from twitter. I glance at them to see what’s being talked about, but I don’t expand them so I don’t connect to the site.
@JamesGleick I'm excited to see what Bouzy's Spoutible does. It'll use BotSentinel tech to remove problematic and fake users plus incorporates a lot of the features people wanted from Twitter -- except for free. Beta launches next week then he's coming on my pod to discuss.
@JamesGleick let people do what they want.

@JamesGleick Hear, hear.

(I too am guilty of posting Twitter links but mostly because they're video clips and I don't know how to repost them natively on the Mastodon client.)

@JamesGleick for some things there is just no non-twitter version.

And as someone that thinks deleting an account (and releasing the handle) is a very bad idea, I don’t see the harm to use a twitter account for an occasional read-only visit.

I don’t see the woes 🤷‍♀️

@JamesGleick or, just thinking aloud here, take a picture of the thing and share it?
