This is my first toot on Mastodon, so why not making this meaningful? I am Stefan and I write games for classic home computers from the 80s (almost 30 systems), mostly interactive fiction in the style of the old #Infocom games. A few of the former Infocom peeps even played my games... how cool is that? Here's some of the hardware I use to test my releases. More to come, stay tuned 🫵
@8bitgames Cheers mate, glad to see you here and I'm sure you'll like it! 🥳👍
@Datassette_User Glad to see YOU here buddy. I waited for damn too long :D
@8bitgames That rainbow keyboard C64 is lovely!
@breadbin A guy in Poland made it for me. It's a completely refurbished version of standard C64 keyboard with new springs and cables and custom colors on the keycaps.
@8bitgames Welcome! I've spoken to you on Twitter but I have to say that you are currently the best IF game creator on 8 and 16 bit systems.
@richardtroupe Wow, that really touches me. I put my heart and soul into these games. Thank you so much Richard!
@8bitgames No problem! I've had fun with a couple of your games and I want to get the physical versions now!
@richardtroupe You won't regret it. The Infocom style box for H1DC looks insane, especially when you add it to an existing Infocom collection :)
@8bitgames nice to see you here, Stefan!
@davbucci Yay, Davide, happy to see you here :)
@8bitgames Welcome to the Fediverse Stefan!
@MARKFIXESSTUFF Glad to be here and I am also glad to see YOU here buddy! Cheers ❤️

@8bitgames

Welcome!

Are most of your games to text adventure style games?

@randynose Yes. Well my game Rabenstein comes with graphics as well and I recently released a point and click version of it. But my future focus is most on Infocom style games that are more accessible and contemporary.

@8bitgames

There's something to be said for the text adventure games. I think they invoke more imaginative thoughts.

Also, perhaps for someone my age there's some nostalgia involved. First time I ever played around with a computer was playing hunt the wumpus on a mainframe back in the seventies...

A few kids, myself included, gained access to a college campus computer. We weren't supposed to be in there.
😆

@randynose Infocom, the inventors of what we call interactive fiction these days, once said that the mind draws the best pictures. So they intentionally did not put graphics into their games for a long time. And I totally agree with them (and you) :)
@8bitgames Hi, Stefan! I am working on my first IF project in like 20something years. I don’t have high expectations but it’s pretty nostalgic already as I plan out my engine.
@mike Feel free to ping me when you progress. I'd love to give it a go :)
@8bitgames It’s more of a learning exercise in a new programming language than an actual game but I’ll hunt you down and make you play it if it gets to that state.
@8bitgames kickass! Welcome to Mastodon! 👾
@exkclamation Yay, finally normal people in my timeline :)
@8bitgames great looking setup. Which is your favourite system to use and to programme for?
@TinBee Wow, that's hard to say. It's probably C64 and Amiga, but I also love the Atari ST, the Spectrum, the CPC and the Atari 800. So what you see here already is a top-favorite machines selection from the around 30 systems I port my games to :)
@8bitgames Nice to see a Plus/4 in there!
@Axonite You can try my adventure Hibernated on the Plus/4. You probably will love it. I do have a soft spot for the Plus/4. A good friend of mine had a C16 and later a Plus/4 at home. (he was a bit jealous of my C64 though) :D
@8bitgames I'll have to check it out! I also started with a C16 and later a Plus/4, but also wound up with a C64, C128, and VIC-20 too. 🙂
@8bitgames love the licence plates on the wall ;)
@ramak Yeah these are so cool aren't they. Found them on Amazon I think and they gave me so many childhood memories that I just had to add them to the wall :)
@8bitgames only had to DuckDuckGo the Miami Vice one ;) the others where top of mind.
@8bitgames Lovely machines! I'm always delighted to see old rigs still using CRTs.
@ieure It just has to be CRT. ❤️
@8bitgames Big Infocom and IF fan here. I love that you test your games on old 80s kit. Awesome hobby. Great to have you in the Fediverse!
@danny You are probably going to love Hibernated 1 DC very much, I promise ;)
@8bitgames You know what would've been even more awesome than that? Sending your first toot on one of these machines (especially the colored one is awesome!)
In any case welcome!
@8bitgames Welcome and have fun here. The posters on the wall look awesome
@Steph Thank you so much. These are Perry Rhodan artworks from the late 60s to early 80s. The retro-futuristic vibe goes well with my retro machines :)
@8bitgames Your man cave looks amazing 🤩
@dankski It's a pleasure being here every day. But that's just a part of it. You probably will see the rest very soon :)
@8bitgames Anyone with an #AmstradCPC6128 is ok in my book! 😀Welcome!
@8bitgames That's amazing! You've reunited there two of my favourite things: #retrogaming and #PerryRhodan
@fabianocerqueira There is something special about Perry Rhodan (which I do read up to this day). The retro futuristic artworks go so well with the man-cave :)
@8bitgames Absolutely. I also still read Perry Rhodan. 🚀
@8bitgames Good to see you over here, Stefan! Hope you're well. :-)
@Blerkotron So happy to see you here buddy! I am fine, thank you so much. A little bit busy but not in a stressful way. And how are you? :)
@8bitgames Not much time for anything these days, but hopefully things will settle down a bit at some point. :-)
@8bitgames welcome to the other side. We made it quite cosy here, so I hope you enjoy it 😋
@dec_hl Yay, glad to be on board buddy. I waited for damn too long!
@8bitgames love seeing that Commodore 64
@stefanf28 The C64 is the one computer I grew up with. Still gives me goosebumps after all these years :)
@8bitgames my first computer too. Brings back a lot of good memories.
@8bitgames Hi 👋. Are there any game bits e.g. for mastodon?
@8bitgames or an web API to connect to such a service?
@8bitgames bots, i meant bots ;-)
@ChristophKappes Oh, now I got you. I don't know actually
@8bitgames
