Weird Tales vol. 35, no. 8 (March 1941)

Unusual for Brundage, an uncomfortable montage/collage of different elements. What on earth is between the man and the throne, bottom right? It looks like Mjolnir from the Marvel movies but that can't be it.

Amazing Stories Volume 9 Number 2 (June 1934)

Relatively calm, undramatic artwork for this collection. Tonally it's nice, with the browns and oranges, but is the ship descending or rising? Is it leaking that creepy smoke or disseminating it on purpose? If this is “Subjugating The Earth” then why start in the Arctic?

The resemblance between Ghita and Sonja is unquestionable.

In 1976, Frank Thorne worked with Roy Thomas on Red Sonja for Marvel, which brought him considerable fame among fans.

Tired of the censorship that limited creativity at Marvel under the Comics Code, Thorne created his own warrior, Ghita, whose first appearance occurred in this 1984 issue of Warren’s fiction and fantasy magazine, which, above all, did not adhere to the Comics Code. (+)

Among the various series featured in this issue, Frank Thorne’s *Ghita of Alizarr* stands out. The resemblance to Roy Thomas’s Red Sonja is striking: A warrior who survived being a woman in a barbaric world and became the greatest swordswoman of her time. That time, around 10,000 BC, is right where the Hyborian Age is set—the home of Conan and Sonja. (+)
