Great punk rock collection!

Which cassette would you put in your player first?

My choice: Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables

#punk #punks #punkrock #punkcollection #punkcassette #history #punkrockhistory

@historyofpunkrock Ramones are always first. Non-negotiable! Just saw Social D live a week and change ago—Still got it.
@historyofpunkrock I'd play Wire first, but maybe Television a close second
@historyofpunkrock It’s tough call between Fun House — one of my gotos since the 80s — and Milo Goes To College. I haven’t listened to that in forever. I bought my copy from Bill after a show in DC circa 1985. At the time I had no idea he’d been in Black Flag. If I’d known I’d have embarassed myself by going full fanboy at him.
@historyofpunkrock o god…. My brain says I should be one of The Cool Kids and pick Wire but Discharge is so visceral. Marquee Moon has that glorious title track but the rest? Fresh Fruit has so many nice memories but so does SLF. And so on. By the time I made a choice the tape would be old and demagnetised.

@vince @historyofpunkrock A couple of months ago, when we had a total lunar eclipse here in Tokyo, I listened to the Marquee Moon album in full for the first time in ages while walking and looking at the blood red moon. It was magical. Highly recommended.

My punk rock choice would be the SLF and Discharge.

@nofrills hmmm… you’re probably right. I’m basing my opinion what 20YO me thought at the time. I’ll give it another go.
@historyofpunkrock that's a good collection! I listen to a lot of those pretty regularly on the digitals, but I would / could put on Crass because I literally still have that cassette!

@historyofpunkrock grab one at random and run with it.

Aside: I only ever had Dookie on cassette. Played it over and over until it literally broke. Read the liner notes while listening to memorize the lyrics to all the songs.

@historyofpunkrock sorry ma! Love every track on that album
@historyofpunkrock
Milo goes to College. Feel lucky to have seen 6 of these bands live. Didn't count the Dead Kennedys but I did see Jello DJ one night. He was playing 60s mod music on 45s. So I got that story 🤷
@historyofpunkrock The Clash, but Fresh Fruit was my second choice.
@historyofpunkrock Definitely Fresh Fruit. It still sounds as fresh as the day it was released.
@historyofpunkrock the Clash. But what goes second is actually the harder question. SLF, X-Ray Spex, Buzzcocks, the Jerks…
@historyofpunkrock if “punk” is the ideal of being inventive, independent and transgressive, then the gold standard is:
- marquee moon
- double nickels on the dime
- pink flag
@historyofpunkrock The Clash all the way but the Jerks are a close 2nd

@historyofpunkrock

I know which ones I *should choose but I’m gonna go with the Skids just because it’s sitting there staring at me, bringing back memories.

@historyofpunkrock

Ramones. The album was good then and sound even better now.

@historyofpunkrock The Clash or Inflammable Material
@historyofpunkrock such a breadth of styles. But I’d probably grab Minor Threat.

@historyofpunkrock The Clash, Blondie, The Ramones, DK… but I’d probably always start with

Stiff Little Fingers

The opening strings of Alternative Ulster still haunt my memories.

@historyofpunkrock Punkrock will never dieeeee, I have them (almost) all and I love that Television oneeee 🙂
@historyofpunkrock Probably Discharge for a change.
@historyofpunkrock Milo Goes To College. I listened MGTC yesterday, so that's the right answer for me.
@historyofpunkrock Seeing Green Day in that collection hurts my soul.
@historyofpunkrock my turn with tapes, but these are recent ones I got in 2022, mostly french and belgian stuff. Tomorrow's history!
@historyofpunkrock "Fesh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables," which is what my, um, less than entirely legit cassette of it claims it's called. But it's facing stiff competition from Crass and The Clash.
@historyofpunkrock Richard Hell because I belong to the Generation
@historyofpunkrock mmmhhh not so easy to take a choice. But ok today i think Minor Threat!
@historyofpunkrock Hard to choose! But I never tire of the vibe of that Voidoids album. It's got a little of everything a body needs.
@historyofpunkrock I’ll take Richard Hell and the Voidoids, please.
@historyofpunkrock hear nothing see nothing say nothing
