Just a reminder that yesterday four Republicans in the West Virginia legislature introduced a bill that would make being openly trans in the presence of a minor child a felony punished by five years in prison.

There are 10 phases to a genocide. This puts the US at phase 6.

This is bad. A new anti-trans bill in West Virginia would ban "transgender exposure to minors" as "obscene matter." It would add to a law with a 5 year prison term, and to ALL laws around minors in WV. It must not pass. @amaditalks @bmeatty all “unconstitutional” means anymore is that a case has to make it in front of our extreme, lifetime-appointed fundamentalist SCOTUS. Congress is hamstrung, and those folks have proven themselves to have not an ounce of shame in following a theocratic agenda that has no reflection of the typical American sentiment.

@hacks4pancakes @amaditalks I was simply referring to SCOTUS precedents. Sadly, current members of SCOTUS have agendas that trump (pun intended) a reasoned application of precedents. If folks believe stare decisis might be applied then this bill might die. Personally, I think your observations are correct and I do not expect a happy outcome.

@amaditalks in any public space, being near children can be unavoidable, thus they have essentially made being trans in public illegal which is EXACTLY what they want. with oklahoma barring treatment until 26, florida bathroom bill, they're deliberately driving trans people to suicide, effectively putting us on stage 8.

@amaditalks I am not recovering from this information. I do not understand the level of fear and ignorance that this type of action comes from. These people have no business in this issue. Unless & until they have trans kids, they have no business here. Trans or not trans, make no mistake, these are children. They are not predators or criminals, they are children. This hysteria over this issue is a sad commentary on man's inhumanity toward man and how little we have progressed in so many ways.

"This prohibition does not apply to obscene material used in the presentation of local or state approved curriculum." - Even ignoring the writing, WTF does this mean? When would definitionally "obscene material" be part of any "approved curriculum" in PK-12 education?

I finally found it on the second to last page, the text:

…such prohibited displays shall include, but not be limited to, any transvestite and/or transgender exposure, performances or display to any minor.

So it comes down to what is meant by the words, “display” and “exposure.”
Imho this could be twisted to include even the mere act of a transgendered person, just walking down the street!
