What I don't get is the blind enthusiasm people have for some forms of tech so the disabled can leave their homes- like exoskeletons, and the incoherent screeching I have to listen to when I address other tech- like better masks, that let other disabled people leave their homes.
I'd love to do a video on emerging mask tech. Not to tell people to mask up, just show better mask options for those that want it and need it- but even that can't be accepted. This specific type of medtech- masks, being used by anyone, anywhere just enrages people.
@SexyCyborg Wow these are amazing masks
@SexyCyborg omg the models they chose! “Wear our mask and you’ll look like this” huh?
@twt @SexyCyborg I believe the masks were worn by the engineer who designed them
@thierna @twt @SexyCyborg I've been staring at that toot for a while trying to work out whether it not it was a joke and if not how to point out that's just what @SexyCyborg looks like without seeming like a dick.
@twt that’s @SexyCyborg the person who posted the pictures.
@SexyCyborg we almost got thrown out of a Sears store the other day because the manager said “hey what are you doing with those big masks on? you can’t wear those for Covid in here!”
@SexyCyborg what is the light up one? They are all good, but this one is just awesome!
@SexyCyborg Found it answered in the matching twitter thread. It's Razer Zephyr mask that is not recommended by Naomi despite them having done multiple things right. Also Razer does not claim them being an N95 nor being a PPE on their website. It looks cool though :)
@SexyCyborg The first one is _amazing_, I could totally see myself going to a club with that look.
@SexyCyborg the first two are amazing: I've often wished for a more elegant mask to wear to nicer occasions that was still effective. People have to put themselves in the way of any type of progress, I guess.
@SexyCyborg Ooh! Is one of them a Totobobo? I especially liked how packable they are and the breathability is not too bad. Not as great as a 3M Aura, but great in a pinch. It's a good compromise if one of your requirements is for others to be able to see your lips moving.
@SexyCyborg or simply asking for basic accessibility only to have heritage and aesthetics used as a shield like asking for access is a sword
@SexyCyborg easy! exoskeletons look cool, and don't force them to change their own behaviour. Masks 'inconvenience' _them_.

@SexyCyborg
That exoskeleton is about as honest as a self-driving Tesla demo presented by Elon Musk.

Then add high heels and a smooth floor. No cross-slope, no uneven surface, no steps, no vehicles parked in ways that block the sidewalks.

@SexyCyborg

Do you mean better masks for the people in their homes? I thought the elastomer masks were quite good. What would better look like?

@SexyCyborg @cstross

Can someone explain why anyone would want to wear stiletto heels with an exoskeleton? Nah, that’s a rhetorical question
