I do think it’s worth imagining an alt TL in which influencers of conscience deployed their privilege immediately after the Musk takeover to build and move to a new branch of the fediverse. Could have been a set of new mastodon servers or a new app using activitypub, they had the skills and money to organize either or both.

we’ve lived all the reasons this didn’t happen, but for a moment imagine it did.
