Did someone wake up one day and think “screw these comfy bloomers, I want something that cuts into my groin, rides up my butt, forces me to remove the edges of my pubic bush and introduces me to the world of thigh chaff and yeast infections. Mythology & HistoryWe may be able to "thank" the #1920s flappers for that. Due to the shape of the #fashion at the time, bulky, long bloomers were not suitable anymore.
They shorten them to modern knickers lengths (but kept the legs wide-ish).
And then the subsequent eras decided that fashion must be even tighter around the lower body and underwear tightened accordingly.
To be fair, it also made #exercise much easier!
