I only have 3 followers here. I do follow back and would like to give this platform a chance. So far, I'm feeling like I'm invisible.๐Ÿ˜•
@MJM717 Hashtags help, as does following first. One of the things I like about Mastadon is how easy it is to engage with people off the main fees because it's not flooded with bots and ads yet.
@MJM717 hi! I see you ๐Ÿ˜
@HowYaLikeMeow Hi ๐Ÿ‘‹ Thanks kindly for letting me know ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
@MJM717 welcome to the party! Best advice is create an #introduction post telling a bit about youself and follow and use hashtags a lot. They are how we find interesting topics and people.
@MGFarm I appreciate the advice, thank you โ˜บ๏ธ
@MJM717 hope it helps. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
@MJM717 @MGFarm another benefit of a introduction post is people will boost it and will make it easier for people to find you.
@dharmadischarge @MGFarm that's very helpful ๐Ÿ™‚ thanks kindly.
@MJM717 hey Michelle! Be sure to use #hashtags to find people and topics that forster connections. It is the way to be seen since there is no algorithm. It also helps to follow people out of the blue that you find through hashtags. Most people really like to network
@hpkomic I will, thanks a bunch! I hope to get the hang of it soon ๐Ÿ™‚
@MJM717 I see & follow you. Hi!
Thank you for your follow and greeting ๐Ÿ˜Š
@MJM717 and now you have six! Hi!

@MJM717

Welcome!!

From my limited experience, I recommend following a lot of people so your feed stays full & interesting.

Use #hashtags as much as possible so others can find your posts.

Above all have fun!

@MJM717 I got you. Looks like a lot of others do too. I'm still fresh to the fediverse, but I can see there are lots of great communities here, full of great people. Thanks for joining us.
@trashcaster Thank you for the lovely welcome ๐Ÿ˜Š
@MJM717 my server seems to block profiles from mastodon.social by default, but I can choose to view it anyway. Might want to consider shifting to a more specific server for your interests.
@MJM717 i know the feeling (invisible). ๐Ÿ˜„โ€ฆand there is hardly anybody on here talking #Karate lol! Anyway, Iโ€™m also from Ontario; Huron County, north of London, but Iโ€™ve been out west for years!
@martyp Lovely area. Lake Huron is one of my favourite lakes. I fell in love with Kincardine when we performed there years ago.
@MJM717 @_L1vY_
I was on the bird site for about 6 years, but was terrified to post anything for fear of mean reprisal. Here at Mastodon, I feel pretty comfortable just being myself. I have so many different types of people with varied interests in my feed it has been fun to interact with everyone.
@sewstars Good to know. I'm feeling the good vibes here finally โ˜บ๏ธ
@sewstars @MJM717 @_L1vY_
Welcome to human society. Nice to meet you.
@MJM717 Welcome ๐Ÿ’• Please write and click hashtags like #newhere , so more people can find you. ๐Ÿ˜˜
@MJM717 I just followed you! Give Mastodon a good try. I felt the same way when I first started using this website.
@ninakuriloff thank you so much for the follow and the words of encouragement ๐Ÿ™‚
@MJM717 That's because we didn't know you were here. Thanks for the shoutout and welcome to Mastadon!

@MJM717 Tips for creating an interesting feed and finding new people!

1. Use and follow hashtags! Hashtags are a LOT more important here than they were on Twitter, and are how you search for things. I noticed an immediate increase in people engaging with me as soon as I started putting hashtags on my posts.
2. If your app allows it, follow servers youโ€™re not on. I use Toot on iOS, which lets me basically pin servers Iโ€™m not on (tbc)

@MJM717 โ€ฆand look at their local and federated feeds, and itโ€™s how Iโ€™ve found a lot of the people Iโ€™m following now.
3. Definitely look at both your local feed (home) and your federated feed - that lets you see what people are posting on servers that connect with yours, and a good way to find interesting people and discussions.

Iโ€™ll be honest, it took a good few weeks of actively looking for content and interesting people before Mastodon clicked. But once it does? Itโ€™s amazing

@MJM717 I just finished a book in which the main character has your last name, so that seems like a good enough reason to follow!
The Demon Lover by Dion Fortune if you're curious. It's better than the title suggests
@greegreehoist That is wild!!! Have you heard of Peover Hall in Cheshire? Ancient home of the Mainwarings.
@MJM717 Iโ€™ll follow you, Iโ€™m having the same problem. I think I need to post more I guess.
@MJM717 Wellcome hope you enjoy
@Philipnschofield Thank you so much. Still trying to figure it all out. I've already determined that the people are quite lovely and kind here โ˜บ๏ธ
@MJM717 Very true Michelle,Ive only been here a month or so,and its been all food so far
@MJM717 LOL and now you have three times as many as me. That didn't take long.
@Laurie I'm amazed by how fast all the follows came!
@MJM717 lol! I bet! People here tend to be friendly and helpful, though, so if someone says they feel invisible, they'll swoop in to prove the opposite.
@MJM717 Hi, hope I can help.
@OfOtherWorlds Thank you, I'm happy to see so many nice people ๐Ÿ˜Œ
@MJM717 Willkommen. ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ‘
@MJM717 Apologies in advance for my numerous attempts at writing. Happy to follow! ๐Ÿ˜Š
@Tee Thank you kindly โ˜บ๏ธ
@MJM717 Welcome! I live in Michigan, making us practically neighbors. Iโ€™ve been here for almost 3 months and my suggestion is that you keep following people and boosting their posts. Most will follow you back. Donโ€™t be afraid to block the occasional jerk.
@dancline Great advice, thank you kindly ๐Ÿฅฐ

@MJM717

welcome, dust off a spot and sit a spell...

@MJM717 congratulations.

In a day, you have amassed more followers than I have in years on this platform.

I guess I never felt invisible? Honestly, that seems cool, I want that super power.

@byterhymer Thank you ๐Ÿ˜Š I wish you the power of invisibility...lol.
