Using both the hashtag and raw search on the words #fiddle , #mandolin, and #banjo and following folks who actually have posts talking about #music. No "mandolin slicers" or people just fiddling around.

Less interested in bluegrass and classical violin, more interested in "#OldTimeMusic" dance tunes, blues, jazz and #folksongs ... while trying to make the transition from playing such things on the guitar or mandolin to the fiddle, at a rather advanced age for such adventures.
@BobStep
Not a musician, just a music appreciator unfortunately. Just curious if you've checked out Alan Lomax's collected field recordings? Those are so real. Lot of music we wouldn't have today if he hadn't made those recordings.
@Woodchaz Yes! Lomax books in the 1960s helped get me from the #ukulele to the #guitar and from the ABC Hootenanny TV show to older traditional performers. Fortunately Joe Hickerson of LOC & Sandy & Caroline Paton of Folk Legacy were frequent visitors to our coffee house in Hartford, and Pete Seeger made it to town once or twice while I lived there.

I went on a spree years ago buying these collections from Rounder Records. He also went to the Caribbean, Ireland, and bunch of other places, but the Southern Journey comps made a big impact.

Probably my favorite from this one:

I missed a lot of great things on Rounder 20-some years ago, but maybe I am starting to catch up. Bought this (from a seller in Germany!) last month.
@BobStep
Look really cool. I wonder if it's on Spotify...
@Woodchaz Spotify is in my one app too many category ;-)
@BobStep
I was avoiding Spotify because evil corporation etc., but I wanted to explore some newer rap and that's where the bulk of it was.
@Woodchaz 1940s Tennessee field recordings ... apparently they used copy I bought is missing a larger booklet of notes. I'll have to check a couple of libraries to see if they have the record and a copy of the booklet I can photocopy.
@BobStep
Looks interesting. I like that ones I have came with booklets. I couldn't find that exact one on Spotify, but I found some other collections. Interesting that I can hear a little classical influence in some of it.

@Woodchaz Are you a fan of the Smithsonian Folkways label -- https://Folkways.si.edu -- and others like Folk Legacy that it has inherited? LPs, CDs and MP3s are for sale, but PDFs of the original notes are downloadable for free, usually at least a dozen pages, and even the 100 page booklet for the Harry Smith Anthology of American folk music!

@BobStep
Thanks. I haven't, but looks like most or all of the songs can be found on Spotify. Trying to keep track of too many rabbit holes it's hard to know where to focus.
