People aren’t lazy, they are burnt out and taking healthier opportunities.

Employee retention is am EMPLOYER problem, not an EMPLOYEE problem.

@JillianMHurley In retirement, I’m doing low paid mostly outdoor utility services work to keep fit and busy. I stick with it because my boss (a woman and also the company owner) is humane and respectful of her staff. I’d have said fuck-it ages ago if not for that.

@JillianMHurley

We need to support each other! General Strike!
If the job doesn’t pay enough to live on or with, it’s not a ‘job’ it’s slavery!

@JillianMHurley Employees don’t owe “loyalty” to any employer. They only owe an honest day’s work for a livable wage. Corporations demanding loyalty but not livable wages are essentially, Return to the Plantation mentality.
Corporations underpay to increase profits. They have 0 loyalty to employees. I have never felt ‘loyalty’ to an overlord.

Everywhere in the Anglosphere, the 95% do all the heavy lifting and take all the real risks - life or death ones.
The 5% sit on inheritance and give each other oral xxx. And increase wealth by 20% each month.
@JillianMHurley There are a lot of listings out there for jobs that require an advanced degree and experience that simply do not pay enough for a single person to afford a reasonably habitable studio apartment. There were a growing number pre-COVID but recent housing price spikes have not been accounted for in what many employers are budgeting for salaries (the non-profit sector is probably worst on this).
@JillianMHurley aren't all of those employers state owned in the UK? Who are those 2 dozen people?
@hugot not sure why we are talking about the UK. But the 1% who have 31% of American wealth are easily googled.
@JillianMHurley oh I saw the mention of strikes in the screenshotted post and assumed that it was about the UK, as I saw news about strikes happening in those sectors there. Forgive me if that wasn't the case

@hugot both countries are having a rise in strikes, I posted about UK union busting recently.

But unions are on the rise in the US at approx the same rate as post-depression.

@JillianMHurley
The funny thing is that I recently resigned from my last job for this exact reason, and I never actually got around to looking up the details of the work shortage I've seen mentioned in the news. It turns out I ended up doing the same thing for the same reason.

I don't feel guilty or anything. I was hitting my physical limits.

@humbird0 why should you? You owe nobody your health or peace of mind. ❤️

In American culture, putting your own interests first is considered laudable for an owner, but a failing in an employee. It's a very odd convention.
@JillianMHurley And meanwhile people looking for work can't find anything because they're screened out by AIs
