It's only been that way since the late early 1980s, though. Blame Reagan. Think about the Interstate Highway system. The telephone network. The Internet. The main difference between those and everything else is that the Federal Government either made it happen or controlled it while it happened. Big projects have big risks and needs a big benefactor.
But as long as people believe the nonsense that "Government IS the problem" we're dead in the water.
@tiffanycli #Detroit to #Chicago and a #Chicago to #Dallas HSR line.
One can dream indeed. ๐ญ
@tiffanycli every time I see this, I groan. yes, we can have high speed rail here. all you need is political will and a near dictatorial executive branch.
You could roll the dice and get an FDR. He was unmatched in building. I really don't think that person exists today in the political landscape, nor do I think Democrats can unfuck themselves to do it.
Yes, it's right there. The technology, sure. But it'll die a death of a thousand miserable NIMBY shitheels. Not to mention GOP griefers.
@tiffanycli This should the "Highway system" equivalent of the 21st century. Bring back railroads.
That's the only solution to traffic and climate goals.
