@Irylane12 I know that’s right. 🙌🏽
@Irylane12 Liberals need to understand this.
@Irylane12 I plead for a new term for homo- and trans»phobia«, cause, as Morgan Freeman puts it, queer »phobic« people aren't afraid, they are assholes. Queer hate? Queer discrimination? Heteroism?
@mupan @Irylane12 Well done. Some alternative terms:
xenohater
xenohassen
xenoasinus
xenoass
xenorrhos
@Irylane12 source is @mattxiv@twitter/insta! he's pretty fabulous.
@Irylane12 You are already my friend 🥰Thank you 🤞
@Irylane12 I think many in the GOP haven’t grasped that premise, particularly the MAGA folks!

@Irylane12 I love it! Reminds me of a quote, “We can disagree and still love each other unless your disagreement is rooted in my oppression and denial of my humanity and right to exist.”

― James Baldwin

@Irylane12 it's mostly regarding anchovies and pineapples on pizza
@Irylane12 hatred and bigotry is not a disagreement. It’s violence.

@Irylane12 I'm of two minds on this. In large part I agree, and I don't have much tolerance for intolerance. At the same time, if we don't engage with the people who hold these opinions then we can't lead them to the right side of history.

I speak from experience. I was transphobic myself for a long time. It took engaging with people I knew in the LGBTQ+ community, and getting to know a few trans people for the scales to fall away from my eyes.

#lgbtqia #trans #intolerance

@Wingborn I think we all learn and grow but I really have zero tolerance for all these things and cannot accept it from anyone. Glad to hear that you have learnt and have accepted that your old views were hurting people .. awesome 😊🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️
@Irylane12 I totally agree, and I couldn't follow you fat enough...
... until I saw that bit about being a Ravens fan.
Being from Cleveland and an ex-fan in the 80s...
I'm having mixed feelings.
@Irylane12 @schfinkes having to say this is proof that Twitter has moved our society in the wrong direction. Gotta makes things better one toot at a time.
@Irylane12 or ableism or any other kind of bigotry
@Irylane12 Or Covid vaccination, or Brexit (now).
@Irylane12 I like Batman V Superman, I know how to disagree with my friends, but disagreeing about movies and disagreeing about whether trans people deserve rights is like, massively different things.
@Irylane12 There'd not be enough cheek to list all, but it also doesn't apply to: ableism, antisemitism, islamophobia, generally xenophobia, aphobia (acephobia and arophobia), fatphobia, misogyny, fascism, neonazism etc. etc. etc.
@the_luck_witch
@Irylane12 a bit of a blunt label, but does "intolerance" cover all that? Or maybe "oppression..." anyway I'm getting sidetracked - love the general vibe in this thread. 💎🏳️‍🌈
@bezorp @Irylane12 You could also try to use "fear of the other" as most if not all things that people hate others for stem from the concept of otherness. As long as people will find a reason to see differences between someone and oneself as something bad, there will be hate, and hate gives birth to bigotry, and eventually to oppression. Hell, even jealousy and fear breed bigotry. Like for example in my country Roma and Jewish people were doing so well financially they were envied and hated.
@bezorp @Irylane12 I'd personally not use intolerance, because there is a common idea that "you can tolerate but don't have to accept someone", so intolerance to me would also play into the concept and diminish the issue that is lack of acceptance that people are diverse and are good at different things and that diveristy is good for the society.
@Irylane12 If we disagree on human rights, I don't want to be friends.
@Irylane12 or to Russian that invaded a free nation Ukraine, that bomb civilians since Feb 24, DAY and NIGHT
@Irylane12
...or antisemitism.
Happy Hanukkah and Merry Christmas!
@Irylane12 Basically, we can disagree to fiscal policy, but not human rights.

@Irylane12
I've got a question or two which I hope won't offend:
How are we supposed to teach the 'phobes the errors of their ways if we don't interact with them?
People can be gently guided to new ways of thinking, but only if you interact with them.
If we shun and isolate them, how can we show them they're wrong in a way that will actually stick and cause a behavioral change?
