CNBC: abortion laws are affecting students' decisions about where to attend college.

Not mentioned: if access to reproductive health care is important to enough students' decisions, Dobbs (and states' responses to it) will exacerbate existing "red" vs. "blue" state disparities in university-level resources, hasten the demise of the colleges and universities in anti-choice states that are already struggling to meet enrollment targets.

Gen Z is re-thinking college and career plans in post-Roe America: ‘I want to leave the country’

Nearly 40 percent of students say the overturning of Roe will affect their decision to attend a university in some states, according to a BestColleges survey.

@WeedenKim

but isn't the goal in those states to have the universities close down...

just like they want to make all of the teachers quit and libraries close.

they are turning back the hand of time, one law at a time.

@WeedenKim @dynarski funny how professional associations din’t give a big F in many cases. Still organizing strong in gopperistans.
@WeedenKim I feel bad for the colleges that are going to struggle, but there has to be a price paid for taking away a women's right to choose.
@WeedenKim yep; #hatestates vs #greatstates. A challenge for all organizations that will increase under this SCOTUS. https://coloradosun.com/2022/06/27/supreme-court-abortion-business-opinion/
Opinion: The Supreme Court just imposed a right-wing rights tax on businesses

American companies must choose sides, and states, in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court’s abortion ruling.

@WeedenKim Red staters will only care if it keeps football players from going to their colleges.
@WeedenKim Bad, but those red states are going to do their level best to kill education every way they can, Dobbs or no.
@WeedenKim so now I am thinking about an analysis combining Barrett Taylor's "Wrecked" with a reproductive justice frame. If only I had time to write it!
@WeedenKim I’m not surprised at all. I know hospitals in those states have been struggling to recruit new physicians. According to one report, a GYN dept in Alabama was declined by 200 candidates. But it’s affecting all specialities, not just OB-GYN. Too many unknowns. If a pregnant patient gets cancer or becomes brain dead, does a mere discussion with the family about their options make the doctor guilty of a felony? Who wants to risk their career by even testing those waters?

@WeedenKim

Right wingers will be simultaneously cheering that their laws filter out potential baby killers, while also screaming that the wokerati are cancelling their states!! 🙄
