Dear Companies,

If you have 100s of applicants applying for a position, and you don't list a salary, and then your salary range is actually much lower than what many of the applicants are looking for, then you've basically wasted a lot of applicants time when you could have easily posted it.

If you start the hiring process and don't mention the salary range until deep into the process, then you've also wasted your HR department's time.

And if your goal was to try to get the best applicants but pay them the least possible money possible, then you've also just let applicants know that you don't really care about your staff or their well-being, because you don't want them well paid, you want them minimally paid.

And if you say you were "seeing who you got" because THEN you might pay someone an even larger salary than is typical, then you've just admitted that you have a terrible Human Resources team who doesn't even understand what kind of candidate their looking for. If you're looking for a candidate with more skills and can then pay them more, then post THAT position.

So when you say you are dedicated to "fostering a diverse, inclusive, and respectful work culture," you're not really respecting applicants from the start, because transparency shows respect, so why would anyone expect to be respected once they start working at your organization?
