Yo, #gamedev folks: bring back timed events in single-player games. It doesn't have to be a Game-As-A-Service patch roll out thing you remove at the end. You can just put a time-of-year enabler check in, and then it's there forever. It's fun!

We used to bake Christmas, Pride Month, whatever, into the game itself. It just did cool shit if the clock said it was (that month), and some games added extra toggle-options or cheats to force it on for folks who didn't want to set their clock weird.

It's currently snowing in one of the SkateBIRD maps. I didn't enable that, it's just in the code. It's fun!

Makes your life easier, gives your games more of a life of their own. I didn't do as many of these as I wanted, but some of you roll out really cool holiday content and then just, remove it. Why! Leave it in!

Tryyyyy iitttttt.

@glassbottommeg I love seasonal events in games. Even games doing tiny stuff like putting Santa hats on people in Rise of the Triad is fun to me

@glassbottommeg i love when they do this! especially if it's thematic

my game has a very red background in menu on labor day

@glassbottommeg literally just been fixing this up in my game Driving Strikers - there's a whole Christmas themed stadium that appears in December, or if you enter a cheat code :)
@glassbottommeg Yes! Wholly agree. Our games do this exact thing! It's super fun.
@glassbottommeg Thank you for reminding me that it is time to fulfill the ancient obligation:
@glassbottommeg Terraria and TF2 are fantastic examples of this, and as the content is entirely on device user's can switch their system clock or modify commands to simply experience the content when they want to as well.
@glassbottommeg Whenever I host TF2 servers for friends I'll toggle on halloween/party mode just cause it makes things more fun!
@glassbottommeg Lego Loco had all sorts of easter eggs like this. On Halloween all of the people would spawn as skeletons.
@glassbottommeg Of all things, Cookie Clicker does this pretty neatly.
@glassbottommeg @ifixcoinops Agreed; Johnny Castaway once fit an entire calendar of ambient storytelling on a single floppy. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnny_Castaway
