Yes, exactly this. A WaPo instance that the company has complete control over is surely a no-brainer.
@drewharwell
Thrilled that you dig Mastodon! Are you intending to not remove the tweet in order to regain access?
IMO, that's the only way forward...don't delete facts just bc a billionaire is butthurt by them.
@drewharwell This is the principled approach, thanks for standing firm by it.
I saw at least one one popular media figure (~1 million followers) that had their fediverse address in their display name that seemed to disappear right around the time the short-lived policy prohibiting it was published. Maybe it was a coincidence, but I couldn't help but lose some respect for that person.
@drewharwell
I’m really glad to hear this - both that you are not acceding to musk’s blackmail, and that you are here full time. Extra points that you’re enjoying it! I hope to read lots more good reporting from you.
And I really hope others follow…
@drewharwell hmm, make an "appeal", we will decide.
Wow, this is the smallest amount of power I've seen go to someone's head.
@drewharwell Last/first time I was suspended, I couldn't even (re-)view the Retweet I was supposed to delete.
At the same time, the Tweet I had Quote-Tweeted ("the root of all evil", basically) was already gone/deleted. No chance to check whether the YouTube videos in a screenshot of a search results list within the original Tweet still exist.
Also, I could not submit the Appeals form properly, so I was caught in an endless loop. 😤🤦♂️
It went away after many weeks.
Ridiculous process.
@drewharwell oh go on then. You can have a boost and a follow. 😀 I like the cut of your jib.
Loving having actual journalists here instead of bot feeds.
why join a centralized mastodon instance?
im really enjoying it as well. not totally giving up twitter. but spending more time on mastadon everyday
“@joinmastodon @ElonJet @mmasnick Besides abruptly suspending all flight-tracking accounts and Elon threatening legal action against the college student running them, Twitter now blocks the sites as "harmful" using the same technique Musk criticized as part of the "Twitter Files" https://t.co/niW8OIojIL”
@drewharwell Thank you for journalistic integrity. Deleting a tweet may seem a small price to pay for Musk allowing you back on Twitter, but someone who goes down the road of caving in to blatant censorship has lost their objectivity, and their reliability as a reporter.
