Neil Gaiman

Can you tell us a story about how you met John Mastodon? John Mastodon, the legendary founder of Mastodon you mean? I was at a TED Conference in Vancouver in 2014 he was meant to be attending. I wen…

Tumblr
@tchambers @neilhimself I can't wait for Tumblr + ActivityPub to go live.
@tchambers @neilhimself Hmmm... as implied by this instance, I live in Vancouver -- and I attended that same TED Conference 🤔

@tchambers @neilhimself

Woooosh, was he there or not? We never See John, just feel the result of John rushing by.

@mojosue @tchambers @neilhimself

They seek him here, they seek him there
Those birdies seek him everywhere!
Has he come and has he gone?
Damned elusive #JohnMastodon !

@tchambers or, technically, failed to.
@neilhimself @tchambers it was really epic. People still says about the meeting (or try of) between Neil Gaiman and John Mastodon
@tchambers @neilhimself and tumblr proves yet again why its the only place that can match (if not surpass) the irreverence of the-site-that-shall-not-be-named
@tchambers @neilhimself I love it. The Howe Sound pirates of legend and lore 🏴‍☠️
@tchambers @neilhimself ... He was surprisingly down to earth, and VERY funny.
@tchambers @neilhimself ahahahahah I’m loving these John Mastodon stories. But I have a big question. Who is stronger between John Mastodon and Chuck Norris?
@tchambers @neilhimself
Hehe, that submarine story must’ve gotten under a certain someone’s skin.
@tchambers @neilhimself I can't help but notice that this is decidedly NOT answering the question 😂
@tchambers that's not the #JohnMastodon i got to know over the years …
@tchambers @neilhimself I am slowly learning more about #JohnMastodon and am more impressed every day. What a global inspiration.
@tchambers @neilhimself
I really love how Neil is still on Tumblr, just like me. And I just couldn't resist asking him to tell a #JohnMastodon story.
@tchambers @neilhimself Sorry you guys you’re all thinking of Morris Mastodon. That’s the wrong Mastodon. A mistake easily made.
@tchambers @neilhimself
I heard that John Mastodon visited Sydney in the 1990s, involved in Cat@lyst community technology collective that started the community self publishing revolution. Remember the protests at the WTO in Seattle in 1999? It was the first active publishing #IndyMedia that John contributed code to enabling citizen journalism. I never met John but was an IMC editor in Melbourne and the global site 2003-2012
