Infosec.exchange crossed 40000 accounts a few minutes ago. 7 weeks ago, we had ~180 active accounts.
@jerry holy SHIT. huuuuge props for keeping it alive
@jerry thatโ€™s insane. Wow
@jerry congrats. Testimony to your selfless dedication to the community. ๐Ÿ’๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽŠ
@jerry thanks for scaling up our landing pad and new home.
@jerry So how scared does that make you feel? ๐Ÿ˜‚ Big congrats, youโ€™ve done a great job building a great community of refugees, thatโ€™s so much more peaceful than the ๐Ÿฆค
@jerry Yikes. How many active accounts per moderator? Do those moderators all have the time and mental capacity to get to know all those people?
@jerry AWESOME! This platform is SO much better!
@jerry Did you realise eight weeks ago that you were destined to become a social media megacorp for the next ten+ years?
@AlisonW that was not on my bingo card
@jerry
I think that's the reason I haven't opened up my instance, though I'd be more than happy to in many ways. I'm just worried about making such a long-term commitment.
(and no, I'm not married. Dunno that anyone would put up with me anyhow)
@AlisonW I never thought I was husband material. But here I amโ€ฆ

@jerry hey Jerry! I see a few company accounts on infosec.exchange but wanted to see if you had any particular rules/guidelines for folks who wanted to plant a work flag on your instance. I've been chatting with other security founders about this and no-one's sure what the etiquette is ๐Ÿ˜…

Hachyderm has a policy, as an example: https://github.com/hachyderm/community/blob/main/accounts/corporate-accounts.md

@leigh hi Leigh! We do not have rules against it. They will need abide by our server rules, particularly about spam. Weโ€™ve had very very few problems with that, actually no issues with security companies.
@jerry appreciate the reply! Happy to follow all the rules and be non-spammy (we donโ€™t post _enough_ to the company twitter so not a risk there ๐Ÿ˜…). Thank you for the work you do!
@jerry itโ€™s a huge testament to the work youโ€™ve put in! We appreciate it!
@jerry absolutely crazy what can happen in the space of a few weeks when an absolute moon fruit takes over a major social network and finally educates people about the #fediverse
@jerry amazing! You're doing a great job managing the instance!

@jerry WOOT!

This has got to be expensive so I've set myself up to give a regular donation. I encourage others to contribute if they are in a position to do so.

Thanks the work you do Jerry!

@jerry Wooo, that's a nice milestone!
@jerry Good for you. I'm one of your users. Random but happy to be with you.
@jerry happy for you, but arenโ€™t those two different numbers? Whatโ€™s the current active users count and what was the then total number of accounts? Those metrics should be more comparable.
@lukstru youโ€™re right. we had about 2000 accounts accumulated over 5.5 years, 180 of which were active on Oct 26.
@jerry damn, 40 times increase in just over two months. Is the trend ebbing down or are the new pushes as intense as the ones a few weeks back?
@lukstru weโ€™ve added 4000 accounts since Thursday. It ebbs and flows with whatโ€™s happening on Twitter.
@jerry @lukstru really fascinating to watch it grow, thanks Jerry. It'd be interesting to see how active all of these new accounts are if there is any data on it
@jerry this is the miracle of #Hannukah! The server lasted for 8 nights!
@jerry does that make you the newest most influential person in infosec right now?
@rodolfor hardly. There are so may more important people. Iโ€™m just trying to give them a place to connect
@jerry thatโ€™s insanely awesome!
@jerry wow. Congratulations!
@jerry It's kinda like how there's been a surge in NATO membership in the past year ๐Ÿ™‚
@jerry congrats! We're at 36,800 right now. It's... Wild
@hazelweakly Hachyderm is a great place with a great staff. Yโ€™all make the rest of us work harder :)
@jerry aw thanks โค๏ธ you've been doing a superb job with infosec.exchange too!
@hazelweakly @jerry What was your original count? ๐Ÿค”

@yuki2501 @jerry well at one point, it was zero...

Kidding aside, infosec.exchange and hachyderm.io have maintained surprisingly close following levels throughout the entire thing. I believe we were at maybe 300ish before the "big migration"? But I didn't join until about 2000-5000ish? I think? Not actually sure

At some point we both grew by thousands every day so it was hard to keep track of that

@GossiTheDog Jerry at infosec.exchange just posted this update.
@jerry Nothing like a bit of growth to work out the bugs ๐Ÿ˜‚
@jerry I am so damn impressed that youโ€™ve managed to keep it going (and extend it to other fediverse services!) in that time. I threw some money in the tip jar a while back, but please donโ€™t hesitate to let us all know when more is needed.
@jerry you gave the community a refuge. Thanks for that!
@jerry I picked this server at random when I made my account a month ago and I don't regret it!
@jerry In the Grim Darkness of the 21st century there is only Infosec
@jerry Congrats!!! I'm so happy to see this, and I'm so appreciative you've done this. :D
@jerry That is some crazy growth right there. Kudos for adapting so quickly!
@jerry wow. I'm just curious to know the disk space needed for that many users?
@jerry I might need your help! Iโ€™ve been trying to verify my account on infosec.exchange for several weeks but the email never arrives
@jerry glad to be here!!!
