Can’t help but notice that when Twitter banned cross-linking certain social media sites it didn’t include Gab, Gettr, or Parler.
@Popehat but did include Truth Social, which makes that decision even funnier.
@rjgnyc @Popehat makes you wonder, if Trump did come back to #Twitter and started pimping his own social media site would Elon ban him?
@Lazarou
nah, they're only going to broadly enforce this against mastodon. then they'll use the policy as a fig-leaf justification for capriciously banning anyone who hurts Elon's feelings on the basis that everyone has at least indirectly linked to one of the listed services at some point. that's the only reason Facebook and Instagram are on there.
@rjgnyc @Popehat
@Popehat @Lazarou @rjgnyc of course he would. But he would do it in a sly way. Like throttle the account
@Lazarou @rjgnyc @Popehat
Trump will never return. He has his own private club where he gets to make the rules, and no one is allowed to boo him.
@Lazarou @rjgnyc @Popehat For the first time I want the orange muppet to return, and then have a fight with elmo :)
@Popehat @rjgnyc I wonder how many would-be Truth Social users are leaving Twitter right now?
@rjgnyc @Popehat Cheeto would have been offended if they hadn't
@jefuf @rjgnyc @Popehat That would give them both the attention they crave.
@rjgnyc @Popehat
that's just because Trump refused to come back to Twitter when he unbanned him —he has a contract that all his BS must appear on t.s at least 6h before any other network.
@rjgnyc @Popehat I think he's salty Trump didn't immediately abandon it and come back to Twitter.
@rjgnyc @Popehat He's salty that TFG brushed him off
@rjgnyc @Popehat Right?! Incoherent/inconsistent/irrational. Hopefully some minion of #FatNixon will start trying to promote Truth Social on the birdsite and hilarity might ensue.
@rjgnyc @Popehat Elon’s still salty that Trump didn’t come back to Twitter.

@rjgnyc @Popehat

If Trump figures that out he'll probably release NFTs of him beating up Elon

@rjgnyc @Popehat because that’s where one of the Elon Jet tracking accounts is
@rjgnyc @Popehat Truth Social is a mastadon instance sooooo
@rjgnyc @Popehat TIL Truth Social is a mastodon instance (not connected to the Fediverse)
@deanstoneart @rjgnyc @Popehat I remember a story of them using Mastodon code without satisfying license requirements, didn't know whether they were still doing it
@jack_of_sandwich @rjgnyc @Popehat it’s open source though - I’m not sure what the legality of that is
@Popehat It's totally free speech absolutism: His speech is absolute, yours is at his mercy.
@Popehat or tik tok, which I assume is for a completely different reason
@Popehat it's entirely possible they didn't remember that those places exist. After all, they didn't ban MySpace either.
@Popehat i can think of 1488 reasons why
@Popehat or TikTok or VK.
@dataandpolitics @Popehat he loves LoTT so he’s not going to do anything to upset her.
@dataandpolitics @Popehat what’s the logic to ban Insta but not Tik Tok?
@emm @dataandpolitics @Popehat Elon has a lot of business in China.
@emm @dataandpolitics @Popehat Tik Tok is basically owned by China, and he can't afford to piss off China because of Tesla.
@emm @dataandpolitics @Popehat Facebook owns Instagram that's why it was added

@emm @dataandpolitics @Popehat

He'd have to ban LibsOfTikTok (and, as others have said, he'd make China mad and then Tesla's stock price would be harmed).

@emm @dataandpolitics @Popehat Hmmm. The more of EM’s logic I see, the more I worry about driving a Tesla or hitching a ride with SpaceX.
@Popehat Good point, I hadn't picked up on that.
@Popehat this is gonna put a lot of sites into an awkward situation.

I'm thinking of twitch - it's not mentioned in that policy but people post things like "I'm going live on twitch" all the time.

Is it a social media site or not?
@Popehat I do wonder if there are international jurisdictions where such anti-competitive actions are illegal.
@michaelgemar @Popehat Yeah... Going to be interesting to see how EU regulators look at this, especially in combination with other changes Twitter's made since Elon brought his sink to Twitter HQ.
@michaelgemar @Popehat I would be willing to make the case that this infringes (or, at a minimum is problematic under) § 20(3a) of the German Act against Restraints of Competition: 1/2
@michaelgemar @Popehat 2/2. § 20(3a) ARC provides: “(3a) An unfair impediment within the meaning of subsection (3) sentence 1 shall also be deemed to exist where an undertaking with superior market power on a market within the meaning of Section 18(3a) impedes the independent attainment of network effects by competitors and in this way creates a serious risk of significantly restricting competition on the merits.”
@michaelgemar @Popehat Musk may be close to, if not actually, running afoul of antitrust laws right here in the States. It's probably grounds for a class action suit to lock out competition selectively, particularly regarding blatant viewpoint discrimination.
@Popehat or TikTok. sure would love to see the reasoning on that one

@sarahemclaugh @Popehat

That's funny. I wonder if the CCP has something to do with it.

Because knowing that Tesla is heavily involved there, that would be very strange, huh? Almost like it was intentional or something.

@BJC860 @sarahemclaugh @Popehat 1/3 of Tesla cars sold in China in 2021, new factory there since 2019.
Tiktok is a data goldmine for the chinese gov.
Not saying it is the reason, but it could as well be.
