Elon Musk tells me over email re: @taylorlorenz: "Apparently, Taylor doxxed someone on Twitter, for which there is a minimum one day suspension and her account will be reactivated shortly. That will be raised to seven days going forward." Doesn't provide further detail. Suspension happened shortly after she tweeted at him asking for comment on a story we're reporting for the Washington Post.

And in trying (begging?) to stay there, they provide content and value for a site owned by someone who can only be described as an IRL supervillain who hates them.

It's a matter ofPrincipal, they are fighting to Protect Freedom of the Press, Free Speech, and ultimately Democracy!
If journalist don't fight people that try to silence journalist because they hurt their feels or to control speech Democracy would have been lost ages ago.
And that works right up until the power you’re fighting against not only has a vested interest to see you fail, but he single-handedly owns the battle field and controls the terms of engagement.
Publicly groveling for the purpose of “access journalism” is beneath journalists and those institutions that lend them credibility.
Instead of speaking truth to power like they think they are, journalists are actually conceding their power and influence in order to stay alive on HIS battlefield.

@timpalmer @drewharwell Taylor doesn't seem to have ever mentioned the ElonJet account that all the other suspended journalists did. The Twitter far right hate her for "doxing" anti-LGBT hate account LibsOfTikTok and have been pressuring Musk to punish her ever since he took over.

The future of the press and its freedom relies on independence and autonomy (just like running your own website on the decentralized web), rather than being subject to deplatforming in a centralized walled garden and being dictated by its rules.

Could editors push them to avoid mentioning his name in articles or headlines? Instead of "Elon Musk bans X for tweeting about Y", they have to say "Twitter bans X for violating their rule about Z"?

Its a much better look that those that crawled back and thanked the new master for the abuse just poured out on them. It will be hard to forget when running across some bylines that the author is likely only capable of puff pieces to please the subject of their work.

@drewharwell @taylorlorenz At a certain point journalists, activists, politicians, etc. should maybe just make the call to not even log back in and delete their account entirely? Maybe twitter will go back to being the social media platform that it originally was, full of porn and selfies and generic memes. Why is this country reliant on a moronic social media app for news and democratic organization? That in itself is a joke. And part of why we are fucked.
