#introduction I’m a retired aerospace engineer, worked on the #Orion / #Artemis program from beginning through the Artemis 2 mission launch, before that 18 years on the Space Shuttle, so I follow #space & #science topics. Also of interest #photography / #travel / #nature / #environment / #art / #geology / #gardening / #politics.

All photos I post - other than boosts of others - are my own © BigBang through 2026, Milian Kurten.

These are from a Nov 2022 trip to Big Bend National Park, #Texas.

@Trilobyter Great shot! That's Santa Elena Canyon! I've been there!! Here is my field sketch from a BBNP trip in 2020. I think it's awesome how you can see the expression of the #fault that makes the escarpment, plus the same rocks are found at the base as the top, separated by a large normal fault.
@DrRocktagon nice! I studied GeoSci at UT Austin (BS ‘83) and did field work in TX, NM, & CO as part of that, plus a post-graduation stint supporting UT grad students as a field assistant in Chihuahua, Mexico. There my geo career ended (mid-80’s was not a good time, at least not with just a BS) and after knocking around Austin a few years picking up more classes I ended up working in the space program at JSC, 34 yrs & still at it, though also still eyeing outcrops & collecting rocks when I can.
@Trilobyter awesome. Once a geo, always a geo! That neck of the woods has some world class rocks
