Some people support free speech
Some people claim to be free speech absolutists, then buy Twitter for $44 billion and start banning journalists
Some people claim to be free speech champions, and then deflect criticism of an authoritarian billionaire silencing journalists
@jag0325 He was meant to go to Ecuador but obviously US wouldn't allow that. They even grounded Evo Morales's private jet in Austria, thinking he was in there. Very true on your point, but lets not forget Russia was his last resort for freedom, else he might have ended up like Aaron Swartz. 🫤
If 500 words is good, then 5000 words is better!!!
Glenn did put out this video recognizing that Elon is full of shit. I don't understand why this hasn't led to him joining and supporting Mastodon though. All my favorite dissidents seem to be the least likely to even mention it, and then only in a negative light. It really fucks with me.
@juddlegum All out of fucks to give for those two.
Hey, Judd, you need to start using alt text on your images. I mean, you should have been over on the birdsite, but here it's a rule on most instances such that your profile could get suspended. It's also the right thing to do.
Glenn is insufferable. His gyroscope is unaffected by gravity or physics and wavers insistently in circles around whatever is best in that instant for him.
@juddlegum Why doesn't Glen get this this?
It's fine to ban people for misgendering or criticism of vaccine mandates etc because it's for the greater good. Banning journalists from authoritative, reputable sources like NYT and CCN however is absolutely fascist and should be stopped immediately.

I've never seen an orgy of hypocrisy quite as brazen as how the exact same
media corporations and journalists who spent years demanding more Big
Tech censorship turned “overnight* into free speech champions: because
now it's their friends being silenced rather than their enemies.

1. I'm going to continue to think about it, but my
instinct is that a permanent ban on Trump is really not
the answer to the fundamental problems of Facebook,
Twitter and other social networks.

2. Banning Trump is dramatic and simple, but what's really needed is a
more fundamental look as to why far-right conspiracy theories and
misinformation dominate these platforms.

Trump effectively exploits this, but if you take Trump away, the problems
are still there.

3. I think it's a similar dynamic with how the platforms reacted to the
Hunter Biden story. Most of the time they do nothing. But then when they
decide to act, it's clumsy and overbroad.
We need a healthy information ecosystem.
