The unsuspended journalist accounts returning to Twitter to continue to maintain the value of that platform for a megalomaniacal fascist who hates them and everyone like them and will do worse things is… something.
@Jake_Vig Boot lickers. They can burn with the rest of the nazis.
@Jake_Vig it's probably harder for them to leave than those of us who didn't need to have an account for our jobs or to gain a following. However if they did leave, those who wanted to read their news posts would follow them here. Plus it would be taking a stand against the new Twitter regime.
@tehjessica it’s only about clicks, and then every other year voters have to save democracy

@Jake_Vig

I think any journalist who operates in an environment where they concede that they could be banned at any moment is succumbing to a form of voluntary censorship. I experienced this in South Africa, as others did I am sure and remember the idea of 'banning'.

Having experienced this I assure you it's not the mark of a 'free speech' environment.

You can read about it here. https://www.britannica.com/topic/banning-South-African-law

Banning | History, Laws & Impact | Britannica

Banning, in South Africa, an administrative action by which publications, organizations, or assemblies could be outlawed and suppressed and individual persons could be placed under severe restrictions of their freedom of travel, association, and speech. Banning was an important tool in the South

@RobHadley I’ll check out that link, thank you

@Jake_Vig

Until Mastodon has the audience of Twitter, journalists will go where the people are…it’s understandable.

@lzyontz @Jake_Vig Nope they are part of our system of checks and balances. They exist to keep powerful people honest not to allow a fascist to abuse them for a few bucks, some notoriety and clicks.
@Jake_Vig
The “thank you sir, may I have another?” response does not inspire confidence in today’s free press.
@Jake_Vig it's a list of people to ignore even when they do make their move. Their judgement is clearly not good enough to pay attention to.
@Jake_Vig One would hope they'd at least have the common sense to come up with a back up plan... build up a following elsewhere (here) so that they can move permanently the next time this happens.

@Jake_Vig

They're on the same side...just haven't announced the alliance yet.

@Jake_Vig Is there a list somewhere of which journalists are returning?
@Jake_Vig well, at this point, anyone staying on Twitter just deserves to be there, I guess ... 😎
@Jake_Vig @Deglassco Note also that accounts of non-journalists that were locked for the same reason remain locked.
@Jake_Vig they aren’t just returning…they are groveling at the feet of EM. It’s like in HS when the unpopular kid will do anything for the abusive jocks just to be in their orbit.
Have some self respect, journos! There are other platforms. Twitter is garbage.
@Jake_Vig it’s definitely on brand for them

@Jake_Vig

Agreed. This was their moment to stand, and instead they chose to kneel.
