Hate to see journalists on their knees in supplication to Musk, begging him to not be so mean to them. The implication is that if he reverses course -- restoring accounts of reporters he doesn't like, and links to the competition -- all will be well.

This totally ignores reality. He has demonstrated again and again that lies and deceit are tools of his trade.

WASHINGTON, Dec. 16 – Following is a statement from Jen Judson, president of the National Press Club, on reports that journalists have been removed from Twitter because of their reporting. “We are very disappointed at the many reports in recent days that Twitter accounts for prominent journalists at major brands have been deleted without warning or explanation. We call on Twitter to do the right thing and restore these accounts immediately. As for reports that the new owner, Mr. Musk, is directing this activity as retribution for unfavorable reporting, that simply must stop, or it will lead to all journalists leaving Twitter.” Founded in 1908, the National Press Club is the world’s leading professional organization for journalists. Empowering a billionaire psychotic substance abuser, sponsored largely by an autocratic anti-democratic regime. At a time when democracy is under sustained attack all over the planet and a lone unstable freak takes control of the world’s town square, necessitating shots across the bows from both the UN & EU for the threat to freedom of the press his actions pose, and they flock back like lemmings to a cliff's edge. @dangillmor kinda indicates something might be broken with our media.
Journalists have become marginalized in news orgs, as they strive to build relationships with spokespeople they can just rapidly reprint.
We are in big trouble in so many ways as a country

@dangillmor USA has a working judicial system and democracy. I am amazed at reporters from oppressed countries and politicians still using/trusting Twitter while Musk being friends with strongmen. It is impossible to educate them.

I still pop in over there (although less and less) and I constantly tell these people to come here. I wish they would as Twitter is a cess pool. It is all about hateful comments and there is no discussion.

The funny thing is Musk suspended them (which is usually permanent) and then played with their heads. Even hearing about this crap on the news is sad and sick. News??

@dangillmor There is also the issue a classic authoritarian tactic is punishing a few in order to encourage the many to self-censor. That is an important piece to the problem of ignoring reality

@dangillmor This whole exercise he's engaged in is driven by emotion, desire to be liked, and using power. But we all should probably come to grips with the fact that twitter is not likely to go anywhere. I'm not using it anymore because he insinuated his former employee is a pedo and there isn't enough focus on his QAnon adjacent BS that he's actively engaged in.
