A cuneiform keyboard, for all your modern communications.

#Language #Technology

@vantablue there’s no escape ;-)
@vantablue YES! But the consumables on the clay tablet printer are hideously expensive. You can only use HP clay in HP clay printers... Sigh. When will they learn?
@vantablue you should check out my mam's keyboard if you're into this sort of thing! @dirtycitybird check this out!

@Lilith @vantablue A cuneiform one?!?! *swoon*

Mine, cló gaelach and as gaeilge.

@dirtycitybird loved this from the first time I saw it over on the other place!
@vantablue , that's pretty sweet...
'never in my wildest dreams...'
I was always fascinated by cuneiform since the Sumerian history reads like a sci fi story
Any idea if there's a online way to learn and is it a good thing to do so? (My reasoning is that there's a large number of tablets still untranslated - or are they using AI now to speed things up?)
@Antigrav No idea! It is cool, tho. Did you get to make 'cuneiform tablets' in school as a kid with clay and wooden cuticle sticks?
@vantablue , no such luck. I came to know about them quite late, I read the epic of Gilgamesh and wanted to know more about it.
@vantablue Finally! I have someone I've been meaning to have words with regarding the quality of their copper ingots!
@vantablue I must have one. Dare I ask?
@vantablue finally I can complain about copper ingots properly
@vantablue but how does it inscribe on wet clay tablets?
@vantablue what ancient language is that keyboard suited for? Old Persian?
@vantablue There used to be a cuneiform input method for Mac with a kanji-like candidate list. The webpage disappeared a few years ago, but the version I downloaded still works!
@vantablue The perfect input method for tablets. 👍
@vantablue omg I'm normally not into #keyboards but this is so beautiful!
@vantablue
Isn't this Babylonian keys? 😍
@vantablue does it come with a clay printer?
@vantablue
$ setxkbmap -layout cun ?
@vantablue Finally I can complain about my shipment of copper.
@vantablue perfect for a quick and handy encoding of those on the fly shubs! :)
@vantablue @julientaq tu ne l’as pas celui là ?

@polylogue @vantablue

nope. Mais ce serait une bonne addition. Surtout que j’ai des touches qui pourraient aller parfaitement pour un peu de gravure :D

@vantablue this is great because I have some substandard copper ingots I want to write a bad review about
@vantablue
Is there a spell check, perchance?
@jd LOL...yes?
@vantablue
Great, ‘cause my cuneiform is a tad rusty and my current dictionary not only weighs a ton (literally!) but hasn’t been updated since 2300 BCE. Neologisms such as ‘catapult’ aren’t even in there.
@vantablue looks like the keyboard from the 2 minutes to midnight video…
@vantablue emails about substandard copper shipments
@vantablue leave a Yelp review of a Mesopotamian takeout joint.
@vantablue do you have the stone engraving tool that goes with it?
@vantablue At first I was like "I refuse to believe that ancient Sumerians had a tilde," and now I'm like "What if they did?!?"
@vantablue do you happen to have more pictures and/or a source for this please?
@vantablue I keep wondering how one could make one of these keyboards such that it appears to be made from baked clay...
@vantablue This looks like child's play compared to Google Japan's Gboard Bar. 😂

@vantablue

I am curious if anyone has seen or made a keyboard with "braille" keycaps?

@vantablue I never knew I needed this till now.
@vantablue Dear Eu-Nasir:
I am still waiting to hear back from you about that copper shipment.
@vantablue This is how you get demons.
@vantablue
Just what I needed to write on my tablet - my clay tablet, that is
