We are the anvil and progress is the hammer, and liberals coo as if the metal is bending itself.

I was commenting about Gilead being truly horrific and it got me thinking about this basic tenet liberals have that "the arc of history bends towards justice" as MLK said (not that he was a lib).

Thing is, I don't think it does. We are more on a knife edge knowing that the slightest misstep or even a capricious gust of wind will end us.

IF the arc of history bends towards justice then it only does so across the backs of the oppressed.

I am enjoying this really satisfying, homely feeling I get when husband is going out (today it was the gym first thing) and I always go out to the car with Stella to see him off.

Stella snuffles around and goes back and forth for a few sprints and I get to do a bit of training as husband starts the car: I get Stella to a) come here and b) sit. Usually she gets a bit spooked by the car starting but I don't want her running out of control when that happens.

@siege@octodon.social Absolutely mad that they consider "click share icon -> copy" as an outrageous burden on their time. Not only do they want to shit on the proles. They want it one-click easy not two-click easy.

I am so close to getting my old flatbed scanner working in the Linux container too. If I get that working I'll be able to replace my desktop PC upstairs.

I have a little USB dock that allows me to hook up my big monitor. My Bluetooth keyboard and mouse work. My little Schiit DAC and headphone amp work. My work VPN, jumphost and git/vim development environment work, and vscode is available too.

I find that pretty incredible.

I got a Lenovo Duet 5 #chromebook a few days ago and I am really impressed with it. I love the OLED screen and the overall form factor, and the arm64 processor makes running Android apps a lot more stable.

I suppose it might be trying to do too many things? A proper laptop frame would allow for a better keyboard; a 16:10 display would be more useful for general purpose work; a dedicated tablet would be smaller and a lot lighter.

But still being able to do so much for under £500 is incredible.

I'm only Scot-ish.

Happy new year everybody. May the whatnot bring you, you know, thingumy and all that. x

I just have to find my husband now. Left him in a flat with some Captain Morgans around 10pm.
