Remember: Twitter is Elon's company, he has the free speech and free association right to run it pretty much however he wants and to ban people for petty narcissistic reasons.

And we have the right to laugh and point at his ridiculousness and at the free-speech pretenses of his gullible fans.

@Popehat And most importantly, the right to walk away and NOT provide him with traffic, clicks, an audience, and ad dollars...
@Popehat @dirkhh yes… I’ve just deactivated my account for this reason
@d_rakowski @Popehat @dirkhh Plus, and most importantly, we have the right to say that Elmo is a perfect, absolute idiot.
@locksmithprime Absolute, yes. Perfect? Nah. He has work to do.
@sehe So not even at being an idiot, he is good. :)
@locksmithprime @d_rakowski @Popehat @dirkhh Very true. He now claims the reporters accounts are only suspended for 7 days. Would love to know how many good accounts he loses from this fiasco. I’ve had an account here for awhile but haven’t used it. Spent some time tonight trying to find Twitter people. I’ve already downloaded my archive, deleted my DMs. I’m also on Post.
@dirkhh @locksmithprime @Popehat @d_rakowski he’s doing exactly what #putin and #mbs told him to do
@oldmanmike @dirkhh @Popehat @d_rakowski Elmo and those like him are so easily manipulated because of their thin skin and oversized egos, one does not even need to tell them anything...
@d_rakowski @Popehat @dirkhh didn’t even give him that curtesy, just deleted the app and moved on
@SofaKingHigh @d_rakowski @Popehat @dirkhh
the app is shit, btw. eats a lot of resources

@dirkhh @Popehat
If you want to mess with the ad metrics, install the AdNauseum browser extension. Not only does it block ads, but it *clicks* them in the background.

https://adnauseam.io/

AdNauseam - Clicking Ads So You Don't Have To

A browser extension that clicks on every blocked ad to fight advertising surveillance.

@agiorgio @dirkhh @Popehat I just block all ads. I haven’t seen one in weeks.
@agiorgio That would literally give Musk money. He gets paid for clicks.

@markmevans

It would make him less. The worse the metrics are for converting impressions and clicks to sales the lower the ad rates are, quite substantially. Sure, phantom clicks might work out for Twitter in the very near run but it will decrease ad values in the medium to long term.

@agiorgio @markmevans It will also show a lack of follow up business on clicks from Twitter, thus devaluing the entire platform.

@agiorgio
No. No no no

That results in money for Twitter.
Not at all what I want

@Popehat

@agiorgio I clicked on a ton of medicine ads, looked up their clinical trials and posted the results. Twitter was convinced that I am a doctor. Who is apparently lonely..
@agiorgio @dirkhh @Popehat I am not sure if this has the intended effect but I block every ad that pops up without clicking into it. Seems like blocks wouldn’t count positively for an advertiser…?
@nhylden
Correct
I just simply don't go there anymore.
Much easier and better for my mental health.
@agiorgio @Popehat
@dirkhh @Popehat This was the last straw for me. I am out

@dirkhh @Popehat Exactly this.

I have jeapordised long-term friendships over the last month, because people won't just leave.

You think people are sane. And they are... But they're not thinking.

@justinionn

I think it's ok for people to stay if that's what they want to do. I'm not gonna lose friendships over this.
Over the past few weeks there have been a few exodus waves. Right now it seemed to slow down a bit, and we can all relay on Elon to make sure it picks up again.
I'm sure everyone has their own limit when they decide enough is enough. And if they like what they see? Well, I guess that's a choice, too.
@Popehat

@dirkhh @Popehat No.

I don't speak with racist/xenophobic/sexist family.

If I *have* to be in a room with those people, I separate myself, and leave early.

This is no different.

I don't think it's any accident that those who have quit Twitter early are marginalised minorities.

Seeing a lot of rainbow flags here? That's a mark of PTSD.

@justinionn @dirkhh @Popehat

You may find this thread on deprogramming conspiracy theorists interesting.

https://mastodon.ie/@OkieSpaceQueen@scicomm.xyz/109504303497078663

Hard to do with people you're related to but it's experimentally proven and theoretically sound.

☆⋆Okie Space Queen (@[email protected])

Some of you know but for those who didn't, I regularly encounter people in my day to day that believe full on nonsense. From flat Earth to terrain theory, and many other conspiracy theories. I have a tactic I use with them that's half de-escalation and half Socratic Method poking at their stated beliefs. I will always try to make a deal with them where I read a book they suggest and they read a book I suggest. They almost always take the deal.1/8

@justinionn @dirkhh @Popehat It is not so easy for some of us to leave a platform like Twitter, because we have so few options for expression in our countries as it is. It doesn’t mean we’re happy about what’s going on, but a platform like Twitter has been so important to so much of our activism and advocacy in just getting people to know about human rights abuses where we are. So not so easy to just walk away.
@justinionn @dirkhh @Popehat I feel like the last 48 hours have been different. It's now undeniable that Twitter has been utterly destroyed.
@lostinthemidwest @justinionn @dirkhh @Popehat and it had nothing to do with Jack Sweeney, his kid (but I’m not buying that story as no dash cam evidence) but all about him being booed….he knows what we REALLY think & he’s just acting like an entitled ass
@dirkhh @Popehat
But there is a rub. You see the reason advertisers leaving costs the company millions is because they still have an operational budget and that includes server costs. He may be trying to drive traffic away as part of a long term plan to file for bankruptcy and stop the frankly self inflicted bleed
@dirkhh @Popehat
I haven’t deactivated, but I block every single advertiser that shows up on my feed. I very rarely see ads now
@dirkhh @Popehat no we should definitely provide him with traffic. A fleet of busses followed by an exploding Tesla for the grand finale should do him in.
@dirkhh @Popehat exactly, still wondering why mainstream media still hasn’t set up accounts here.
@dirkhh @Popehat yes I deactivated the day he took ownership. Also, I try to not click any links referencing musk in an article (I'm sure the authors mean well, sorry guys).
@dirkhh @Popehat
Bro thinks only American's use Twitter. xD
@lazy4twenty @dirkhh @Popehat supporters too, one said on his poll yesterday that the figures weren’t right because those with jobs will be in bed asleep now…I pointed out I was in Australia & we’re very much awake….although both my accounts were suspended yesterday after saying Jack Sweeney can be found on other sites…one was a Sophia petrillio parody with only 6 followers lol
@Popehat I think you may have (quite unintentionally) just put your finger on the basic flaw in the classically liberal doctrine of free speech.
@Popehat
I quit logging on about a month ago. It can crash and burn like the failure their owner is.
@Popehat The pointing and laughing are fine, but empty, alas.
@Popehat at what point will banned users outnumber unbanned users? I'm guessing tomorrow.

@Popehat

but imo we should be getting people over here.

@Popehat

And until my Twitter account gets suspended, it is a great use to troll Pony Stark and his glasslike ego...

@ncweaver @Popehat Grass is at least beneficial to the world
@ncweaver @Popehat if you're still on there you're making him money. The house always wins.
@dragonfrog @Popehat
The ads I see, very rarely, wouldn't work at 3am on QVC. He ain't makin money on me.
@Popehat Outside of the US of course, he and his company might be subject to regional variations on free speech laws, but I'm sure his company retained the people who know how to carefully navigate those thorny international issues...
@annamal @Popehat You sure about that? The FTC warned them about complying with their consent decree a month ago, and it sounds like they made a formal inquiry here in the last few days.
@jimdinmn @Popehat that was 100% sarcasm on my part...
